Written by David Bowie, “Lust for Life” ended up being a signature tune for original punk rocker Iggy Pop. Between the inimitable rolling drums, burbling bass and almost conversational vocals, the 1977 song sounds like a bridge between Iggy’s wild-child Stooges days - and punk’s even more anything-goes future 🖤

Little discovery I made today about this song : Iggy Pop came up with the rhythm after hearing the Armed Forces Network call signal when he and David Bowie were waiting for a broadcast of Starsky and Hutch. David Bowie then wrote the chord progression to this song on ukelele. These are the only two of the many true musical geniuses that inspired me to pick up an instrument and make music a huge part of my life. Rest In Peace, Mr. Bowie. And may you stay healthy and surrounded by your loved ones for many years to come, Mr. Pop.

Saw him with the Stooges many times in the Detroit area. They'd play with Ted Nugent, MC5, Alice Cooper, and so many great bands in and around Detroit and Cleveland. He was even more outrageous when he was in his 20's. I think he and David Bowie became good friends and Bowie wrote "Suffragette City" about Detroit. Does he say on this song, "I'm worth a million in prizes," like something they'd say on a game show? Cool line.

I love Iggy and people like him. People that you just can't take your eyes off of when they perform. So much personality in only 3:12 of song.

First time saw him (rather than hear him) was on Dutch in a show called Top Pop. Lookup the clip with --> Iggy + Top Pop + Plant. Back then that was wild, production didn't know but it became one of those famous moments in tv history over here. Like, you should look that one up too, Eddy Vedder jumping from a camera boom at Pinkpop in the Netherlands as well. Lastly, back to Iggy, we have a show called the Top 2000 every year, they started to have a show on TV as well and there are segments from that show, Top 2000 a GoGo, that take particular tracks and make ~5 minute clips on the origin of them talking to singers, producers, family etc. His is: "Iggy Pop - Lust For Life - Het Verhaal Achter Het Nummer" on KZbin. Will post the two links below, but probably not allowed to stay up.

"Lust for Life" is a 1977 song performed by Iggy Pop and co-written by David Bowie, featured on the album Lust for Life. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked it #149 on their list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". yes indeed.
