Back then the hardware doubled in bits. 8 bit to 16 was no small feat. The graphics and amount of information available went from being able to create a Lego character with 256 different instructions and possible blocks to a character with 65,536 different instructions and kinds of blocks.

People are surprised there's no new gimmick, but I'd argue that Nintendo had been working towards this design the original DS. Portable, touch screen, motion controls, console that can work independent of a TV. Nintendo doesn't include 'gimmicks' until the technology is there.

They have performance upgrades but reduced visuals on the screen hence lower than possible performance. Oled screens are thinner therefore they could’ve put in better hardware but they didn’t because of greed. I’m disappointed

The Nintendo Switch was an amazing console, but it had one major flaw: Joy-Con drift. Throughout the console’s lifespan, I ended up purchasing three pairs of Joy-Cons, each costing £60. Eventually, I gave up on them altogether and switched to using Pro Controllers instead. I can only hope that this issue is resolved in future iterations of Nintendo consoles. Joy-Con drift was a frustrating problem that took away from what was otherwise a fantastic gaming experience.

The switch by design has many innovation opportunities versus its competition. They could have it act as a vr headset, work like the wiiu to play with duels screen of the tv and console for some games, or have the switch screen. act as a keyboard with the mouse being the joycons. They can innovate without alienating the core of the console purpose because of its portability and home console use. It a marvel of design that leaves a lot of possibilities.

Could easily sell another 15-20 million units after Switch 2 is out and comfortably overtake PS2.

Graphics don't matter anymore. The last time we saw a seismic shift in graphics was the transition from the 6th to 7th Generation (PS2 to PS3, as one example). Since then, at least in my opinion, there've been minimal returns on raw horsepower. That being the case, I think that's a big reason (a) the Switch has managed to be so successful, despite being "underpowered" and (b) while the Switch 2 will be more powerful, it still doesn't need to exceed the processing power of Sony or Microsoft.

I think the problem is that with PS5 and Xbox Series X it hasn't really felt like a new generation at all and there's been a serious lack of must-have first party games released on either consoles however this won't be an issue with Switch 2 since one thing that Nintendo ALWAYS delivers on? Must-have first party games, I mean Switch 2 is LAUNCHING with a BRAND NEW Mario Kart, that alone is a massive statement right there!

It may be a year or two too late for just a processor update. The critical factor for me as to whether i chose to go all in on the steam deck instead is whether the switch 2 ship with an oled display as standard.

Why not both? Wait for a sale on the SD oled since you don't have one and wait for the oled switch. I also have a LCD deck and an oled switch so for me I'm not in any hurry to upgrade either. Deck is great to have around for the portable moddable PC experience And switch is great for Nintendo exclusives and battery.

Considering the fact that I myself own a switch I definitely agree and it’s basically a straightforward move, especially for a big company like Nintendo. I just definitely keep my fingers crossed 100% until I know for sure they learn from their mistakes completely. But for right now, I’m definitely getting it once it is available for pre-order. I think we can hope for PS4 capabilities, since it’s over 10yrs old now. But at this point, it’s very clear Nintendo not only doesn’t need to have super powerful graphics, it has no business with it. At this point it’s so clear that it sells consoles because of its first party games. But to be honest, a Metroid with the visual’s of a PS4 would be great. The PS4 ran Read Dead 2 and that’s a beautiful looking game. Being able to handle that would be a big plus for Switch.

Why offer an inferior version of what’s already offered in the previous Switch. SEEM to be largely accurate. theres been plenty of leaks on the internals we cant confirm yet. I will say, since it is just a larger switch and appropriately named Switch 2, it BETTER be a major technical upgrade given the length of time and expected price.... esp since the original switch wasnt cutting edge even in 2016/2017 so theres a ton of room for improvement. if the leaks are to be believed, i wouldve loved 16 and 512 instead of 12 and 256.... that barely costs them anything more when you look at the BOM for that stuff. only the screen/battery/R&D really costs the big money not the commodity components

Deck is great for portable PC and console streaming. Switch is great for exclusives and lighter portability and better battery life than the deck. Once I got a deck there was no need to shell out extra money in physical 3rd party games on the switch.

You could almost certainly get a much cheaper disc drive than that in 2000. Discrediting the sales of a game console because of a secondary function is completely and utterly stupid. It sold 160m units and 1B games because it is a GAMES CONSOLE, not because it's a disc drive. By your logic, the DS sales as a CONSOLE should have an asterisk because they were web browsers, cameras, communication devices etc. The PS2 is the highest selling console of all time.
