This is the gripping story of the civil war in Sierra Leone and Liberia according to the intimate knowledge and evidence that Mr. Roland Barnes had while he was employed to assist with rehabilitating rescued child-combatants, popularly called child soldiers.
Roland's account differs from the published accounts in many ways. Firstly, he says the war began in 1990 and ended 2000 but the UN official start and end dates records the war began 1991 and ended 2002. Secondly, Roland alleges that the UN failed to fortify his country's borders making Sierra Leone vulnerable to attacks from warlords coming in from Liberia. Thirdly, he also said that UN "Peacekeepers" fled in the face of the rebel forces, abandoning their weapons allowing the rebel forces to gather them up for use against them in future confrontations.
Other sources have reported that the UN personnel have exchanged weapons for mineral resources such as gold and diamonds. These facts came out during Charles Taylor's trial in The Hague.
