Such a sublime touch, and so great to see the way he takes his time with the phrasing of the last two pieces. It's also great so see a classical pianist including pieces by jazz musicians into his performance (Danny Boy is Bill Evans' arrangement).

Steinway & Sons UK - I wholeheartedly agree that this performance is one of extraordinary "clarity." However, the pitch is to the credit of the piano tuner, and the beautiful piano, as fantastic as it is, can not be "enhanced" or degraded by any pianist because it is what it is. Mr. Levit is without question, to my ears, a consummate pianist. But there are others that might play as well on this piano, no? And if so, would you say that they too "enhanced?" If so, I ask, how can any pianist enhance any piano? Perhaps your last sentence might better read..."The clarity in the notes and pitch is enhanced and showcased spectacularly through (by) this world-class performer and piano." Sorry, but I'm an old picky school teacher. That said, if Mr. Levit reads these comments, I wish to add my deepest thanks for the beauty he brings to my ears, my heart, my soul, and my life through his immeasurable gifts! Thank you Igor! I believe that such talent and hard work should be rewarded fairly and if it is ever to be so, you will surely play for the gods!

I hate how so many piano concerts nowadays are recorded with such a tinny, harsh low quality sound. There’s no warmth or richness and the treble frequently dominates.

I think the real problem is we listen mostly on our handphones, few of us have any experience of high end hi-fi equipments and so cannot begin to distinguish between Arrau & Michelangeli, or be swept away by the voice of Callas in full flood, or stunned into stupefied silence by the magical dawning of the finale in Igor Levit's iconic Waldstein...

"Pianist like no other" can mean nothing or everything. It certainly doesn't mean the "best" of all living and dead. For example, Levit doesn't performance in a suit. This alone already makes him a pianist like no other.

I quite agree. A horrible concert. The pianist looks as if he is still in his pyjamas, unwashed, and his manner is charmless. I listened only because I anticipated hearing the Percy Grainger masterpiece Londonderry Air, which is a challenge for finger discipline in voicing the Danny Boy melody in the lower and upper registers. The arrangement he played sounded like a cabaret pianist dooodling in front of patrons who are not listening. I understand this pianist likes to pronounce on political matters. Unless he can learn to behave and look like a true artist I shall not be listening, even though the second movement of the Beethoven E minor was played beautifully.
@asalj40143 жыл бұрын
Who cares if a piece is memorized or not? Its just stupid performance practice, adds nothing to the music.
