As a girl rider, I agree fully with everything she stated: - don’t feel pressured with getting a bigger bike than you feel comfortable with. Better to lose money with an upgrade in 2 or 3 years and riding a bike you don’t feel comfortable with and have a bad accident or scare with irreversible consequences. - the bikes of the people who invite us are also a good indicator of their intentions or riding style. I’ve ridden more often with older men in big BMW GSs than fellow small displacement bike owners my age who show through social media what they ride (usually fully modded sports bikes) and how they ride (squids, barely any safety equipment). - don’t cheap out on equipment. It will save your skin and your life - don’t buy a bike just to ride with others. It took me a year until I felt that I could trust my skills and bike enough to handle the new things riding with others could carry - don’t buy a bike to save money, haha - check out for local trainings every year to polish your riding skills. I do it early with the local police and road authority and it’s an amazing way to start the riding season Open to address any other questions. Ride safe!

I would add though, you _can_ use a bike to save money, but you have to stick to something like a 125 amd ditch the car. Not what the internet would call "fun", but everyone around my neck of the woods started on one. They're cheap. Cheap to buy. Cheap to run. Cheap to look after. But also most of us can't wait to qualify and upgrade, so there's much wisdom to your "don't expect to save money" point 😉

@@233kostaExactly. A 125cc (specially in countries where you're allowed to ride one by simply having a car driving license) can come super cheap. But the moment you consider upgrading and want to be safe whilst doing it, it changes 😅.

From what i found, while her friend was speeding a bit, the suv that made the turn should have let them pass through, so it was a mistake by the suv. Here’s a big tip to really emphasize-wear your gear. I do not care if you think it’s cute to wear a crop top and jeans or leggings or whatever. Do that off the bike. Please protect yourself on the bike. I see too many fellow biker girls who just wear like regular pants or worse leggings and then regular shirts and maybe not even a regular jacket (armored is the best anyways but more layers is better than none). You dress for the slide not the ride

When a youtuber posts stuff that they themselves dont even want to do but just do it because they think its what their followers still want, its noticeable and it becomes boring bc i feel like us watchers can tell when a youtubers heart is in it or not. Post whatever content your heart desires! This is your platform to explore and express yourself ❤ dont worry about those who choose to unsub, you shouldnt have to fit in a certain box just to please everyone. 3 days course to learn everything about motorcycles! Here in Europe it's so hard to get a licence, after you have done the slow maneuver practice around 30 hours, and driven at least 600 km 30 to 40 hours in real roads with an instructor in a car behind you, you have to pass 3 tests (theoretical test, very serious and hard slow maneuver test and driving test in real roads), then and only then you get the licence. You will be amazed of new bikers here in Europe with the level of skills and experience they already gained before acquiring the licence. Keep up the good work and drive safe.

I am about to turn 50 and just got my first bike, and I am all for girls getting out and riding! It's SOOOOOO freeing... I signed up for the MSF through our local Harley dealership as a birthday present for myself, and we had our online class and written test, then 2 days of on-bike classes before taking our test. I had started looking at used bikes to start out when I initially signed up for the class and was wanting something to just tool around on - I got lucky and found a friend who had a bike she bought her daughter to learn on, but her daughter wanted a cruiser. So we bought it, picked it up, and the next week I took my class. I have me a sweet little 2012 Honda CBR250RA that I absolutely love. I do tippy-toe on it (I'm 5-3 in cleats) and I'm taking my time. Keep riding, keep learning, and keep vlogging - we all need to see women starting out where we are so we can get that confidence to progress

QUESTIONS 1.Because you've backpacked as a kid you obviously felt that familiarity with bikes but were there certain fears you had as a learner or newbe apart from the obvious? 2. When you finally bought your bike and was able to ride freely, on your first day riding out did you feel stupid or self conscious? 3. Hypothetically speaking; let's say I'm on a group ride with more experienced riders and they get carried away and leave me behind, do i, (a) try to catch up but carefully at my own pace if there is a meeting point, (b) stop and try to get in contact if i can, or (c) just go back home if i feel hopeless 4. For a new rider, do you suggest going shorter distances at first just to get more familiar and comfortable? Or is it a go with what i can handle typa thing?

2. First time I managed to kill my bike thanks to not being used to my bikes clutch alot. Turning head is very important aswell, dont trust only the mirrors. 3. Don’t go crazy tryng to catch em, if they leave ya like frl then just go buy some ice cream from local store and watch some netflix or ride ya self and listen to bangers. 4. Short distence for sure. I reccommend myself your own neighbourhood. When ya already used to it expand it a lil more and like more. Dont make very long rides at first, ya need to get used to bikes clutch and everything and it comes with time. That is all my opinion though as a rider. Btw the gut feeling is frl frl, got in an accident aswell cuz went to school with bike while having bad feeling lol idk how to explain that but yeah listen to ya heart.

GSXR600 was my first baby. I DID end up lowering it as im only 5"2...that made all the difference at stops and gave me stronger footing and control over the weight of my bike, making it feel much safer. no difference in handling. My second bike was a stretched and lowered gsxr- don't recommend that because the turning ratios were all screwed. I learned in Alaska where I was in the army and the military offered a free course- def don't ride without a course. I took it down to Miami when I moved, and it got totaled at a red light when some lady t boned me. Cities are sketch- so always be extra extra alert. Tips- Add drop bumpers ( in case you drop your bike you won't scratch your up all your panels ), & ALWAYS wear your protective gear.My second accident happened the *one time * I left vest at home, and I broke my collar bone, lower back, and rib that day. Also, trust your instincts.. I had an irie feeling when I was leaving the house that day but bypassed it...esp as a woman our intuition is strong. * also, loud exhaust is your friend .. add a custom one for safety- cuz these cars don't be looking for ya.

Wow it’s so easy to have the motorcycle licence in California! In Europe, you have to take a writing test, a dozen hours of riding lessons, a driving test on the road and another test testing your capabilities like slow riding, urgency braking etc.. and for the first two years having your licence you can’t drive a bike too big. (Like not bigger than 650cc). It’s a whole commitment, like I wish it was easier to get it but at the same time it’s a way to make it safer for everyone on the road so yeah :)

Not to be anti social, but I think one of the more common ways new riders get into trouble is by going on group rides too early, especially with long established friends who ride bikes. Too often those friends, because they've been riding with each other for so long, tend to forget you're new to it, (because you're just one of the friends they're used to hanging with), and they ride at a much higher skill levels. It's very hard for a new rider not to be sucked into riding beyond their skill level because they don't want to let the others down. Don't be afraid to tell them you're not comfortable enough with your bike yet to ride with them. Most riders will understand and respect you for that statement. So I think it's very important to ride by yourself for a good while, 6 months, a year, depending on how often you get out. Then start to look for group rides, if you like. Best if you find a group who always lets the slowest/newest rider take the lead and set the pace. If they constantly leave you behind, at the lights, in the twisties, etc., this isn't the group to ride with. Or, as some of the people here mention, ride with older people. They tend to be way more conscientious towards the newer rider and are just over all calmer riders.

Fellow newbie on a Ninja 400, and also 5'1", so this was a joy to watch. FWIW I'm of east Asian descent so I'm about 90% torso. I have these stumpy little legs and I can only get one tiptoe down, so I'll legit be lowering my bike until I have the balance/skills/coordination to be able to reliably pop a cheek off at intersections and not have it HADOUKEN me into the ground. Sports bikes like these are so top-heavy, when they tip they really pound you into the tarmac. Ask me how I know 🙃 It's heartbreaking but true what you say about there being creeps and weirdos on bikes just like every other interest, and women needing to carry just as much caution with them as everywhere else. There are so many brilliant, kindhearted, wonderful souls out there on two wheels but they're not the problem, and I wish other dudes understood that a bit better. Really hope this vid inspires more women and femmes to jump on two wheels though. All hobbies and interests benefit from more diverse enthusiasts participating.

In my case being in MD, I took the Harley Davidson MSF course and it was 300-something bucks Friday evening to Sunday. The class in the evening was in-person and went over written basics. Saturday was the first day on the bikes and it was quite nice but overall the class was brutal due in part to the coach but due to his "hazing" I felt better prepared especially for heavy DMV traffic. To put into perspective we had about 20 people in the class to start... by the end it was just 3 people including me. Quite a few dropped out, some had mental breakdowns and some were involuntarily ejected from the class... any time someone dropped the bike or in one case, wrecked we'd have to sit there with the bike on, hand on the clutch until the coach returned which could be 40min. Overall it was very enjoyable. Due to various issues we fell behind and we had to do more learning stuff before we did our actual riding test. After the riding portion it was the written exam and if you passed, you received your voucher and all you had to do was go to the MVA and get the "M" put on your license! My biggest tip is dress comfortably! I made the mistake of having a BLACK motorcycle textile (Johnny Rocket) jacket at the end of September and it was hot and HUMID. I was sweating so much and uncomfortable... all you need for the class is long sleeves and boots that cover the ankles with some gloves. Wear a light sweater or something and flat boots. BILT makes affordable riding high top sneaker boots which I used and were great. The women in my class mostly had heels and it seems like a pita to shift or brake reliably. Also bring a LOT of water and snacks that aren't thirst provoking. Motorcycling is a lot more physical than I initially thought it'd be and that can take its toll so stay hydrated. I cramped up so hard... you don't have to lol. During the class REALLY focus on the slow maneuvers and try to get them down. As she said in the video, the bike will be harder to control at slower speeds - understand how to counter-balance and maybe even ask your coach for tips! As far as first bikes go, I got an Indian Scout Bobber and while that's over 1200 CC's, it was very manageable. Cruisers in general would be an excellent option due to their gearing and overall power or lack thereof... with the low center of gravity you can build up some confidence. Now I am looking for a bike for my wife who is about 5'5" or so - cruisers aren't necessarily the best for her if you're thinking of "out of the box" riding. Her feet can touch the ground but she can't really reach which isn't a problem if you just get longer bars. She sat on sport bikes and felt way more comfortable... you're higher up, sure but the bike can be easily lowered. The main thing is her arms could reach the handlebar and turn it without and discomfort or straining. As far as gear goes, invest in the gear you want the first time. I got some friends that recently got into riding and they got cheap gear that really didn't stand up to daily riding or they had major complaints and kept spending on cheap gear. Get something that is quality rather than buying junk that will eventually surpass the price of that piece of gear you want. She hit the nail on the head with safety though. Even as a guy, people have done some sketchy stuff and came at me for no reason. Be careful who you associate with and ride within your limits. Don't let people pressure you to go faster. This may be me being an introvert though but I really don't have people to ride with even though some friends do ride now (they aren't always about it lol). That said, if you're at a group ride, don't be afraid to dip if ppl get wild.

I've been riding for 10 yrs in Southern California. Got my license my senior yr of highschool when I was 18, started on a sv650s. I'm now on 2015 s1k. I have no riding friends. Honestly, I am too scared to lose a friend to a motorcycle accident, so I stay solo dolo. Some advice, if you do ride in groups, is to be aware that sometimes riding in groups will make you lose focus. You are with your friends you are having a good time but the dangers are still present. Also riding with a group can make some people ride outside of their comfort zone so to keep up with those riders that are more experienced. Like vereena said, ride like you are invisible and with a little luck can make it to 10 yrs riding also :)

The best point here is definitely not being pushed to a bigger bike early. You’ll notice the more you meet people the people that will try to push you to a bigger bike are often the riders with less skill and only care about speed. Ride smart, master skills, and only move up when you have out grown the bikes capabilities. Most riders accidents are riders trying exceeding their skills while riding bikes that exceed them as well. Big ups bike fam

It's a preferred mode of transport. I used to cycle to College about 6 miles each way. So soon as i was legal to ride a motorbike i got one, no brainer, the fun of being on a bike but no more pedalling!😮 I don't understand cyclists. Thank you Vereena.👏👏👏👏👏 Now Newbs in LA have someone to sit down and chat with. Tips. Tuck laces in, don't ride with shoe/boot laces hanging, they can wrap round the gear shift lever and prevent you putting your foot down. Just kick quickly to snap them, cheaper than fixing a danaged bike.👍 Don't ride with your visor fully open, a bug hitting you at 30mph is like a stone hitting your face! I park my bike in first gear, stops it rolling off the sidestand if some drunk falls into your bike, and stops an idiot wheeling it away. Keep house keys in your pocket, don't have a whole bunch of keys on your ignition key coz it can scratch paintwork and if you do a jump the weight can pull the keys out, then you'll need to go back and find them. I should make this number 1, gentle braking. It's not like a car where you put all your weight on a pedal, the bike is a lot lighter and just a gentle squeeze is needed even in an emergency. Please practice slowing down quickly. Just keep up with traffic flow and don't be going too fast too soon. ❤️+✌️

I bought my bike lowered by previous owners. If you lower correctly it doesn't cause issues with the bike. It's when you cut corners and cheap out that you ruin the lines of the bike or cause damage to the suspension.

**For the short girlies (couldn't be me, freakin 6'1 over here lmfao I wish :') ), the honda rebel is a great cruiser (where your not leaning forward like on a sport bike). My BFF is 5'3 and rides with a lowered rebel with no issues! Its interesting to see the differences in Cali vs Canada (ontario). We paid about the same amount when you convert it over. First day was a Thursday 2hr class, meet the instructors and basics on how to ride and stuff. Day 2 was Saturday, 7am to 3pm and you start picking your bike to ride for the weekend, one person rides in neutral the partner pushes to get used to the feeling of riding. The actual riding, some skill challenges and things to get used to like round abouts, swerves and stuff. Then Sunday same time, we had the last 2hr for testing. It was only a riding test that we practiced for most of the day; 6 sections, most involved start from a position, get into 2nd gear and finish within the time limit. It was only a curve, there was 2 for that one, one was a sharper turn and you had to stop in the end spot. Another one was a much sharper curve, stay in the lines, get through in so many seconds. Another, stop within the designated area. Another, get into I believe it was 3rd gear, and emergency swerve whichever direction the instructor pointed last second. All of them were time based for the most part. Once we finished, we got our scores. If you passed, same thing it's emailed and you go to the drive test center, hand in your form and your good! You have to get your license within 90 days of getting your M1, which is our written test of 3 sets of 20 questions. Then once your on your M2, you can ride just not at night and the same rules as a car. Then you have 5 years to get your full M, which is a on road drive test. My instructor place teaches the M drive test too, where as our M2 test was in a parking lot. But it was really fun. You ride rain or shine, so we rode in some rain the beginning of Sunday. If you fail, you can retake free of charge as well here too.

You make some really valid points in this video. I am an experienced rider, and I do ride a big bike, but I'm constantly learning every day. I think it's awesome that more females are getting into riding, and although it is a hobby dominated by males, I think there's something in motorcycling for everyone. I have met some very talented riders since I started and some of those riders have been female. So keep on doing what you're doing and if there's anything I can do to inspire or motivate you or your friends feel free to reach out. I'm from Oklahoma and I love riding. I love all motorcycles too, even though I have my favorite brands.
