The Schrade SCHF51 and SCHF52 Frontier knives are some of the most hardcore overbuilt budget friendlyoutdoor blades with the bushcraft and batoning crowd in mind. This review beats them up and goes over the ergonomics. Are they the best bushcraft blades of 2015? I have no clue really, but I had fun chopping wood, and using them to baton. They come in a 7 inch and 5 inch blade, with a sheath, a ferro rod, and a sharpening plate. Anyway, I shoot my reviews like a short film, and make jokes. No tabletop stuff here, just having fun using a knife or two. These knives are a replacement for the SCHF36 and SCHF37 and they retail for about $35-$70 depending on the model.

awesome review! Your commentaries are hilarious but extremely informative... I've been a KZbin junkie for years but I actually created a channel so I could drop you some positive feedback. lol That's either a compliment to your overall style of reviews are really creepy of me... Either way you're one of the only channels I subscribe to so keep up the good work! I'm probably going to buy one of these knives now so you're doing a good job doing whatever the hell it is you're doing! lol

Looks like a great package for the price. I'm starting to get the idea that finger choils aren't going away anytime soon. I wish manufacturers would be able to offer with and without while still be cost effective for them. Another great review, though. Keep it up. I appreciate the time you put into these videos.

+AZ0960440 Thanks for the support. On the choils... you could save some extra weight on the blade by removing that area altogether. The handle is big enough on either blade that I never placed my finger in that area anyway. I feel like it's a bit pointless on a knife with such big proportions.

I own the SCHF51 and the SCHF52. A Mora in stainless too for fine works. Issues: zero! Probably I'll purchase the Schrade SCHF56L. Certainly the "star" ESEE 5 has a better quality, but it doesn't justify a price of ca. 154 Euro! The SCHF51 costs ca. 56 Euro, the SCHF52 ca. 74 Euro. Further there is real "star" on the market: the Becker BK2 (round about 99 Euro). Probably the prices in the US are lower than in Germany.
@AdvancedKnifeBro

+GrasDeRost yeah man... US knives are outrageously priced overseas. I'd like to get an esee soon- I'm late to the party on them.

Thans for the very helpful review. What other brands can you suggest at these price range same as i mentioned above? THanks
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 8 жыл бұрын
When you say labeling, you mean the weight and model #? As far as bushcraft knives go these are some of the nicest and biggest knives I've tested. I've also done two reviews of Cima knives, that are a bit smaller. Just remember these knives are heavy. Some people prefer lighter knives for bushcraft- but that's up to individual preference.
@RagingSovereign
@RagingSovereign 8 жыл бұрын
***** i meant labeling which one on the video. haha. Then what do you prefer for lighter survival knives but can also do battoning? my budget is $150 below.
@AdvancedKnifeBro

+Deathstroke 06 (LaxusDF) I actually prefer the heavier ones. A lot of people like the Moras because they're light, but I don't have much experience with them. My favorite so far gas been the Schrade SCHF51. A also like the Cima 1 I reviewed too, although the blade is a bit shorter. If you like a slightly shorter knife the SCHF56 is also a decent choice too.

Hey I'm getting this knife soon, coming tuesday. I'll do a review and whatnot but what should I expect? In some videos and reviews I see people breaking them like glass and in others it's a tank. How are the knives holding up now?
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 6 жыл бұрын
I literally am not aware of these breaking like glass- but I haven't watched more than a few videos about these. I don't use these much as I have better knives now, but they held up to poundings pretty well. I mean I've had blades break on more expensive knives, but that can be a bad heat treat. If you attempt what you see in these videos I don't see a problem?

Your reviews are so funny ....yet sada and true LOL.... I bought the 52 with tpe ...do ya like tpe? cause I would rather have the micarta...wanna trade? CAUSE SCHRADE doesn't sale handles which they should cause right now I would gladly pay 20$ for micarta grips....or maybe just spend 20$ more for the 51m cause I always need more knives.
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 8 жыл бұрын
+Airik1111 I'd just say we could swap out handles but that wouldn't work, because of the extra holes the TPE needs. Plus mine has been batoned a bit, so the finish is wearing off. I think the TPE is nice- it seems durable and it's grippy. I think you'll like it.
@Airik1111bibles
@Airik1111bibles 8 жыл бұрын
+mhanlen1 I just got the 51 and decided to go tpe with that one also I'm sold on the tpe now that I've chopped the crap out of every loose branch in my yard LOL. I bought the Schf 42 which has the grivory grips its just a hard plastic and honestly it has way to much vibration, so hard is bad.... unless your 70 ;) By the way you totally scored getting them bushcrafter blades for review, this video clearly gained ya some notice with Schrade and probably made for awesome coffee break conversation.
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 8 жыл бұрын
+Airik1111 Glad you like the handles. While I feel the TPE might be less durable than the micarta, I don't know if that has any basis in reality. It's definitely nicer on the hands when you're out back whacking wood.

I hope you have friends who wrote to Santa asking for wicked strong knives they could potentially use to cut down a small tree, if they so happen to need to do so. Sweet review, bro. I don't know if it's the bad jokes or the fact that you're self aware how bad they are that keep people coming back. Oh and btw more flashlight reviews please. keep up the good work!

I appreciate how you do your reviews MH, I cant stand "unboxings" that never show the product in use. If Schrade values your channel enough to send you blades to punish thats saying something. these look like mans knives. that being said if youre working in the yard a cutlass might be a better candidate for this kind of work. it seems like you color grade your vids in that cine flatish look, then again it might be my old eyes. keep representin we need more anti knife snobs.

No snobbery here. I try and pick out good quality stuff to review... Most of my knives have been budget friendly, because that's what I look for in a blade. I got a few more schrade blades coming up... The schf68- which doesn't come out till next year. But they all hold up to plenty of abuse.

+mhanlen1 Please help!! I'm trying to decide between the Ganzo 722 and the Schrade SCHF52. They both seem like heavy duty blades. I don't know. On one hand, I'm willing to sacrifice portability for battonability and full-on raw power... but on the other hand my POU demands light weight. But then again I need high carbon for smacking sparks off of rocks. On the other hand, I would like SS for gutting, dismembering, and butchering large game. I need to be able to trust my life to it! What do you think? Oh, I'll be mostly using it for cutting up Amazon boxes in my garage, along with occasional opening of hotdog packages while car camping in a national park with summer campfire restrictions. Thanks in advance, your a good man, I can tell!! PS Do you have any gutting, dismembering, or butchering videos featuring either of these blades? If so please post them. They don't even need editing or voice-overs. Thanks again!

+Ruster Kat 722 all the way brah, definitely works well for weeners and corrugated paper products. I don't misunderstand you for a second. Did I recommend batoning versus other means of wood processing in the video? Did I even really recommend batoning? The only point to these tests was to try and beat up the blade. Looks like I need a disclaimer in front of videos now, just to let everyone know that this tongue-in-cheek knife review isn't a how-to on proper wood processing. Honestly considering how you worded your original comment, I'd wager that you're probably not my target audience. You might be careful how you word helpful comments. The word "stupid" is generally not considered "helpful." The word condescending comes to mind.
@Hertacles
@Hertacles 8 жыл бұрын
Ok, this isn't how I want to start my day. Arguing with a man I don't know over an item I don't own isn't really a hobby of mine. But seeing as I searched that knife in particular and came across your video because of my interest in it, I would be your intended audience as this is what schrade gave you the knives to do. It was also the reason why I watched video. No need for disclaimers. Might have been harsh wording, sure. But I stand by what I said. Every time I go out on a camping trip I stumble across some dude hacking away with his knife pouring sweat in the summer trying to process fire wood with just a knife. Heat stroke and exhaustion are real things and morons do mimic what you guys do with absolute vigor.
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 8 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Martin I mean honestly why anyone would even take a knife this size camping is beyond me. One might argue that the whole existance of knives this size is baffling, considering there have been better tools for processing wood for centuries. I backpack, so I travel light with mostly a small folding pocket knife and a tent that weighs only a little more than these knives. I hike, camp, and backpack in areas where this sort of activity and fires in general are not legal. If you've watched any number of my videos, you'll see that they're meant to be entertaining product reviews, where I often poke fun at myself for doing things the wrong way. A lot of my subscribers get that, but occasionally some people come along who don't. And for the record I've never disagreed with you on the proper way to break a limb into pieces. It takes forever to process wood this way. But that wasn't what I was going for.
