I'm so excited for you. Looking forward to seeing this build. Is there any way you could do a polyester fabric cover with out dope. Only water based like minwax polycrylic. I'm new and looking for info on covering without harsh chemicals. Thanks. Sorry I didn't wait till the end to comment on covering 😢

This is one of my favorite planes, and I do have many. But I am looking forward to this build Josh, good luck with it!

I am pretty sure that the oil saito recommends. I run stihl full synthetic oil in my saitos

A 2S LiPos peak charge voltage is 8.4v. Many people forget that the listed charge on these batteries are BASE voltage, and that letting them drop below it off load continuously will ruin the battery in the long run. Single uncharged Lipo cells themselves are 3.7v, as well as LiFe and LiIon being 3.3v.

This is true. I appreciate the detail here as I was speaking to the nominal voltage. So I need to verify the ignition source voltage but I am hoping that I can run a simplistic setup but still be redundant where necessary.

Hi Joshua, Good luck on the build. That engine is gorgeous. I bought the Carolina Customs re-kitting of the Top Flite Giant Scale P-47. Came with the fiberglass cowl and I ordered the bubble top canopy version. I will power it with an electric motor and possibly add bomb drop pylons to drop the bombs. Have no idea when I will start, but will also be a 2 year build. I have looked into VarioProp scale 4 bladed prop for the P-47. I know they are very pricey, but boy do they look good. You and the family stay safe.

Pylon drops are an easy contraption and worth the effort. As always, appreciate the kind words and you following along my RC journey.

Hey, maybe you should advise ME! Hope the build is going well!

I've heard that saying a dozen times, in fact I've said it before too... "If he can use it on a full scale and risk his life over it, it must be good." The only true way to test an oil is to really see what it does to an engine after 50 hours or so. I use Redline on all of my gassers but i have used other oils and they all work well. I am buying that same engine in the spring on a Ziroli PT-17. Can't wait to get it and good luck with your project. I'ts going to be awesome!

Mr. Orchard I agree about the sticker argument. If I buy an expensive part I think it’s cool if something like sticker(s) come with it. I just bought a $40 set of Du-Bro wheels and I’m just guessing they won’t have anything included. $500 turbo rebuild kit for my truck…no stickers. Boo.

That engine is pretty boss though!!!

Im getting ready to start a 70 inch Ziroli P47 razorback. Its my first build of a warbird from a shortkit with a completion kit bought planes cowl and canopy and rear exauhst for the turbocharger also has been purchased. Do you have any suggestions for me.... Fiberglass or oracover plastic adhesive coated covering? I have not decided. What do you suggest? Also what retract company shall I go with? I been thinking about going with cheap JP retracts instead of expensive ass Sierra or Electron gear.
@JoshuaOrchardАй бұрын
Hands down I'd go with fiberglass. With all the compund curves on the Jug it saves the most headaches. The finish will be nicer too. For retracts... listen, I know it's hard but after spending over a decade messing with cheap retracts, just pony p for the the nice ones. Buy once, cry once. Robart IS coming back so get building and maybe by the time your ready for them, they'll be available again.

Wait, what? The wings aren't symmetrical? Wasn't there an Italian WW2 fighter with one wing smaller to handle the engine torque/prop wash?
@JoshuaOrchard2 ай бұрын
I think there was but I cannot recall the exact subject. Nevertheless, the existing examples of the Model 44 do not have asymmetrical wings and the ribs are symmetrically spaced. Most aircraft are. I know that in some old control line models the wings were off a little but that was due to the nature of ONLY flying in a circle. It's an interesting thing, for sure.
