I had this game as a kid (the 3.5 disk version without voice acting, so I actually prefer that despite the great cast), and loved it to death, the atmosphere, the setting, the mystery, the cutscenes that felt so extremely grown up and mature to my kid brain... same with all the silly flirting and nonsense Gabriel does, I bought it completely because I was a kid, and I wasn't listening to a goofy sounding accent and just imagined a voice in my head... but I had no clue how to progress (and I had beaten Sam & Max without any help, so it wasn't like I was completely stupid... this game just has way too much King's Quest style BS in it for a kid to make much progress without a walkthrough, and I never saw one until later in life...), so watching this video is like getting to see everything I never knew how to do explained, along with seeing the rest of the story, so it is super satisfying to see how all those damn Sierra "puzzles" are actually supposed to play out!

While dying from laughter I almost missed the missed joke at 36:00. "(...) arrives at Wolfgang Ritter's castle. The castle is named Schloss Ritter". Schloss literally translates to "castle", so the castle is named "Castle Ritter" or "Ritter's Castle". Also, if the city where the castle was is named Ritterberg, then "berg" or "burg" is a term for calling a city. So, the guy basically was descendant of a feudal lord and pretty much owned a city. Ah, the irony of "destiny" being "got from my family".

Ok so I watched the first minute and a half of the video and I just made an immediate prediction of the plot, so you have to trust me on this. Basically, Gabriel is going to write books about the voodoo murders, and then the murders will come true. then he will go on this mystery conspiracy quest with strange killings to figure out that he is the murderer because he is possessed by a demon that takes control in his sleep because his great ancestors made a deal with the devil or something. Edit: Ok I was wrong, but I thought I had a good guess.

I love this video but I do want to point out if you're still wondering that as far as Louisiana is concerned, Voodoo and its history is not really separable from the Catholic church. It's not so much that you have the option of one or the other, rather for many they were (and are) formed together as one set of beliefs. Personally not in that realm of belief, just thought I'd mention it as it's typically not too unknown of a connection in the US, especially if you're from the south.

This video was so hilarious. About the game itself, I appreciate some of the historical context they attempt to give around voodoo, but with the way the story progresses it does turn into "voodoo is evil and scary" which is sad to see. Voodoo is about honoring your ancestors and the spirits to access guidance, healing, and protection. I wish we had more depictions like that, but the game itself is at least interesting.
