When heat is added to a compressible flow, the stagnation temperature always increases. Whether the static temperature increases or not depends on the actual flow condition, since the stagnation temperature is the sum of two terms - static temp and u^2/2Cp. When 1/gamma^(1/2) < M < 1, the increase in the second term for a given increase in T0 happens to be more and so the static temperature actually decreases.

Thanks for uploading this lecture. There seems to be a discrepancy with A. Shapiro's book. On page 202 Vol 1, choking in supersonic Rayleigh flow is discussed. It is specifically mentioned that in case of Rayleigh flow the shock will not alter the max ratio of the T0s. Please suggest.
