I’m saving for Uno desktop or Mavis - which one should I buy as my first hardware synth? Is the Uno sound as good as Mavis?

It’s only May, but the full-size version is easily the single best piece of gear I’ve bought this year. Happy to hear about the editor (though librarian function is all I really wanted). Pairing this with the tiny but mighty UNO Drum is a real powerhouse for well under $1k US.

Definitely sounds phat. Yes - got to have an editor. Shoot - I'd like third party editors for some of my software VSTi ! Aside... I have the original Uno and it works great as an oscillator using the audio-in function on my Korg R3 (MIDI controlling pitch).

Thanks for the great presentation, this is a very tempting machine IMO. One question: Would you know the maximum speed of modulations that are fed in via the external CV Inputs? If these can be really fast, that would give a lot of additional Sound Design options...

If this beauty can go Gate & Pitch out knobs and buttons still active but with the Local Control Off for keyboard only while being able to control the UNO via Midi In then it's 100% a winner for me.

The editing on this one is quite comprehensible, much more easy than the editing matrix on for example the Blofeld. However, I think they should had worked some more on the firmware before releasing it. For example, the ring modulator on my desktop model is really noisy and I can’t yet find a way to route incoming audio. Please tell me, if someone has found a way.

I hope they upgraded their build quality. I owned an original Uno synth. It sounded great when I could get sound out of it. The build quality was shite however. The encoders were crap. I could only sweep the filter if I applied pressure at an angle. They were jumpy and hard as hell to get where you wanted. If I were going to spend that money again I would get a Volca Keys, Bass, or another Crave instead.

It's a real shame they didn't include the ipad audio interface in the desktop version that they have from their other productts. It would have made for the perfect travel ipad controller/synth solution. A real missed opportunity. Novation should do a travel size version of the old xiosynth...

I don't know about you, but the last thing I need is another wall wart. Power over USB and a discrete power socket would be best, giving you the choice. Audio over USB at a decent bit rate would be nice too.

The synth sounds perfectly good and all, but IK stuff just doesn't float my boat. I had one of their "irig" keys that had to be replaced 3 times because issues with the USB connector. Just last night I thought I'd install the IK stuff that comes with protools, honestly; what a joke. Opening their plugins felt like shopping on Amazon. They wanted all my information to use them as well. Again, all their stuff SOUNDS great, but their insesent marketing, quality issues, and aesthetics are a big no for me.

I wish this had come out before the Sequential Pro 3 (they are so much more money than the new UNO). The Uno sounds so good! The effects sound great. I hope Sequential will update the effects algorithms and make it easier to get a wider sound out of it. I realize the Pro 3 is a mono-synth but it also sounds very monaural. I may sell it and get the new Uno.

I was GASsing for the Pro 3 but, once I got this, that dissipated. I’m also not certain if I’ll keep my Sub 37. That’s a bit difficult because I consider the Sub 37 such a beautiful instrument

@Terry Murray I should clarify that I have a Minimoog and a Sirin, and a number of other monosynths. So it’s somewhat a question of space and overlap. If I didn’t have so many monos, I probably wouldn’t even consider it as there’s not a lot of sonic overlap between USP and Sub 37. But at the moment, USP would be the one going to the desert island with me 😄

@@RobertSaintJohn Both the USP and the Sub37 are nice, but USP is much more compact, the workflow is good and its sound can venture into gritty phatness.

@Terry Murray if you have the money to spend I would go for the polybrute. Mine finally arrived about 2 weeks ago and it’s now my desert island synth. It’s oscillators are strong enough that it does well as a mono synth as well. I haven’t touched the Pro 3 since it got here. The videos on KZbin also don’t do the sound justice.

Pricecheck over here: Uno Synth Pro: 317 €, MOTAS-6: 1553€. I bet that it is an excellent synthesizer. However, price-wise, the Uno Pro is much more interesting for many.

@@jsaulkane5893 The Uno Synth Pro is just in this price segment a super paraphonic device for beginners (but also advanced). Many synth beginners do not want or can not spend 1500 euros on an instrument. Therefore this comment under this video about the Uno Synth pro is like comparing apples to pears. Or as commenting to a Video about a Ford automobile how better a Tesla-review would be because they are much better, more interesting, innovative and more unique,etc. Of course, it would be great to see a review of the MOTAS-6 synth, especially since it's an underdog of a small company. But that it is way more interesting/unique/important than other synthesizers is your very subjective opinion. That's why the post is misplaced here. I'm sure there would be a few more reviews of this synth if the manufacturer would send it to big KZbinrs, as borrowing or so for a period of time or as advertising payment.
