Very nice. I saw his rendition of this too. But I came here from Chinese version. Didn’t know it was originally Japanese. In a live version he doesn’t some of it in Cantonese to give recognition to Jacky for singing this song. They both sang this with such emotion. Just a little different but equally as awesome.

This song is about a Japanese lady named Yoshiko Yamaguchi /山口淑子 (Chinese name 李香蘭 Li Xiang Lan) who followed her parents lived in Manchuria China which was invaded/occupied by the Japanese imperial army before Ww2. She speak perfect Mandarin, lived like a Chinese, was used as a propaganda tool of the Japanese imperial army, promoted her became a popular actress & singer. when Japan surrendered in Ww2, she was arrested by the then nationalist government of China. She was being accused as a traitor of the Chinese people but upon discovered that she was actually a Japanese during the trial, the then government of the Republic of China didn't execute her instead deported her (in this case, a traitor is where a Chinese working for the Japanese imperial army) . This song is about her feeling & state of mind when was deported leaving Shanghai. She said, Japan is her mother's land & China is her father's land. Later she became a senator & worked towards improving & promoting the friendship between China & Japan. She revisited China in the 1990s & met some of her closed friends. She died in 2014 at age of 94. Upon hearing her death, the Chinese government commented that she is a good friend of China.

I can speak some Chinese. I lived 3 years in Guandong, China, and had the privilege to visit Japan. i disagree with the translation for kono mama de. yeah this sub is also "correct" but in context with the song it's better translated as ikanaide, please don't leave, kono mama de, not like this, "in this condition/state/situation". translating to "stay with me forever" is a reaching wordplay esque translation which is low key genius but also horribly incorrect. if we're playing that game then "stuck like this" is a far better translation
