Both of them had great runs in the 1988 Olympics/1989 WTTC.

@@dickn.ormous1064 Klampar was considerably older though. The last of the 70's generation as I recall. At least at that level. Surbek struggled on I think but not so successfully.

@@SuperHammaren Klampar was the better player but he didn't get along with his head coach which hampered his career. Surbeck was a workhorse, he trained his fitness too much.He just couldn't play close to the table.

@@dickn.ormous1064 A weakness Surbek had, I say him play in 1993 in Wttc, he was not bad. Took one set of Fetzner.

@@SuperHammaren Longevity-wise Surbeck is second only to Waldner,he won a bronze in the WTTC Singles Event in 1981 aged 35.I think he had a major influence on the German team who are notorious workhorses (not Timo Boll though) often to the detriment of their overall TT skills development.
