Tina was amazing, and Ike's vocal backups gave it depth. Love the performance - though by modern standards, the choreography for their backup singers in particular was minimal and pathetic. But compared to her later performances of this same piece, as a solo artist some 15 years later, this doesn't hold a candle. She was so much more electric and wholesome (though still sexy as Hell) once she was out of that abusive relationship. She was such an incredible artist, so alive, so dynamic in all her performances, and such an incredible person behind the scenes. Have been in mourning since her passing.

x Solid x Gold x Ike and his Kings of Rhythm were the one baddest band out of St. Louis back in the 50’s, so singing in his revue was big. Ike discovered her talent and she took it to a huge level. People just don’t want to give Ike any credit because of his abusive behavior. Not condoning it, but ass whooping didn’t stop Anne Mae.

Ike said he started because it helped him stay awake and he could get lots of work done. In the beginning he was drug-free. He was introduced to drugs in the late 60s in Vegas, by the 70s he was hooked. Cocaine brings out the worst in people and they don't even realize it at the time.

@beautifulsurprise94244 жыл бұрын
Just how many people do you think would know about Ike had he not met Tina that day in the club where her sister worked? He was a well known local musician in St. Louis and surrounding areas and he was the person that helped launch the careers of musicians such as Howlin Wolf, and B. B. King but he didn’t reach their levels of success until he met Anna Mae Bullock (Tina Turner) and then and only then did he make it national as opposed to local. He most certainly was a very talented singer, songwriter, and band leader but he had other demons such as an obvious temper and drug addiction that kept him from reaching the levels of success that perhaps he could have if he didn’t have those issues. So, that being said (typed) they needed each other to reach the levels of success that they did. The real measure of success for them individually is what happened to their careers after they separated. Tina’s first solo album after she left Ike debuted No. 1 and won 4 Grammys. Ike got deeper into drug use and went to prison for a short time and never again saw the world wide fame that he did when he was with Tina. My point is that the world most likely wouldn’t have known either of them if it wasn’t for the other, but Tina continued to soar when the relationship was over and she deserved it considering the sheer hell that he admitted to putting her through. Take care.
@mamakjacsmith244 жыл бұрын
I agree with this .. however once he decided to allow her to sing and travel with them and the group became the “Ike & Tina Revue”. Focus left Ike and it came to Tina. Why? Her voice is phenomenal and her moves on the stage captured the audiences attention. So Ike is responsible for putting her in the forefront of the stage but after she broke up with him. Tina did things herself and she had no help from Ike. He was in prison for some time for drug reasons etc. So I would say after Tina left Ike was when true success hit!! I only have positive things to say about (Anna Mae) Tina. She’s a Queen!!! ❤️
