Ikea ALVDALEN sofa bed review

I just ordered one. When set up as a bed it’s the same size as a “full” mattress. You can sleep 2 people on it. I like that it takes up significantly less room than a standard sleeper sofa which is ideal for the room that I’m going to put it in. I laid down in one in the store and it is pretty much on the firm size mattress wise.

Hi, thanks for your video!! The IKEA is more than 2 hours away from my home and your videos are always helpful . I'm interested in this sofabed and searching a little deepest I just found out IKEA Austria had this model in the past and was named ASARUM, same concept and model I think the only difference is the cushions are smaller in the old model, and they now added the chaise version you showed in the video, thanks again from US! :)

Update: it was delivered and I set it up. Even though the box was damaged during transit with the plastic strapping piercing the box I was happy to discover no damage. It was very easy to assemble; screw on 6 legs, add some self sticking pads to the legs and attach 4 bolts to install the back. The hardest part was breaking down the huge box to go in the recycling container. I did find that the new one was a bit stiffer than the one I tried at IKEA but I’m sure it’ll soften up with use. I’m quite happy with the purchase and it fits our needs just fine.

Hi ! I was considering a purchase as well. I wanted to ask now that you've tried it : Do the two parts (the sitting part and the backseat that goes down) align properly when opened as a bed ? Or is there a difference in level in the middle where they meet ?

Where the two sections meet in the middle when it forms the bed will be level with each other. When it’s new you may have to push down a bit in the middle to get them to mesh together better. It’s also a bit stiff as a bed when it’s new and will soften up as it’s used. We just had a guest use it for several days and he slept quite well, no complaints. We did add a 2” memory foam topper that we ordered from Amazon just to be on the safe side as my wife was worried that it might be too hard since it was so new. The one in the store was softer because so many people had tried it out and it was somewhat “broken-in” sort to speak. I hope that’s helpful.

@@stephana513 Thanks a lot for your answer, it's really helpful ! Did you manage to fit the foam topper in the storage underneath with the pillows ? I think I might go for this solution too :) It's not too big and seems sturdy enough for regular sleep.

​@@billy_romeoI haven't tried it myself but I've read several online reviews and many people said they were able to fit a mattress topper inside the storage compartment. I suppose it will depend on how thick your mattress topper is. I've been thinking about buying this sofa for a while but I haven't seen it in person and I thought the fabric looked a little thin and cheap. Do you know if the fabric is textured at all or is it just flat and smooth? Thanks

Thanks for the details!! There are a couple of things to note. The base is made from particleboard, which is not strong enough for the hinges and springs in my opinion. Notice the base is shorting in width than the one with the chaise. You have to be careful not to sit at the edge as It looks light weight and will tilt.😀

I am not agreed the matress is good I have two at home , juste pute a bed sheat and you will sleep confortably, but it is true that its suitable for one adult or two kids.

A comment like that is uncalled for! And before assuming that I must be an American, don't. I'm Canadian. If it were true that all Americans are fat, then I guess that means everyone in whichever country you're from, can't spell. Are you European or Europian??Just curious though, why would you bother wasting your time writing a comment like that? Don't you have better things to do?
