Hey, it's the Arriva Trains Wales review guy :-P The "hole at the back you thought was a handle" is the bass reflex port (Helmholtz resonator); it's a tube that's of the diameter and length that tunes the cabinet to the same frequency as it would be with the same woofers in the same sized cabinet but sealed (or a bit higher for more of a peaky / humpy boost) and increases the low frequency efficiency ("boosts the bass") by redirecting the air pressure at and around the tuned frequency!

Which means they did a good job innit? So basically you re saying MANY speakerbrands sell wrongly designed enclosures... Oh, and youve seen the video where the test the "woofer" displacement? Thanks for your review Stu! - I’ve actually _not_ been able to make a decision re. the IKEA ‘’ENEBY’’ yet, because I’ve considered the Marshal Kilburn & the JBL Exreme (naturally, the latter two giving me the _added_ bonus of being portable as well!). But ‘portability aside, the _sound_ is where I meet the real quandary, - and tomorrow I’ll make a last personal ‘aural test’, then I’ll decide. (I also take into consideration, that any decent speaker ought to be ‘played in’ before you really hear what it is capable of!) But, I can attest to _your_ surprise booting up the IKEA-speaker; It certainly sounds impressive! Thanks anyway for your input! - Greetings from Norway! 😉 👍
