IKEA Kitchen: "Maximera" Drawer Assembly

This video will guide you through the process of assembling and installing "Maximera" brand drawers for IKEA Kitchen Cabinets.
NOTE: Before starting your assembly I recommend you go to 35:00 min mark of this video first to see the mistake I made to ensure you don't make the same mistake.
The assembly and installation is otherwise quite simple and can be done by a single person without assistance. You only need a Phillips-head Screwdriver (an impact driver can help speed up your assembly but is not necessary). If you ever need to remove a drawer front that has been installed onto the drawer bottom then you will need flat-head screwdriver and the video provides a clear instruction on how to remove a drawer front at the 13:55 and 37:00 mark.
The video also provides some useful instructions on how to make minor adjustments to your drawers once installed to ensure all drawers are nicely lined up in the final installation.

Thanks so much for the information, especially at 19:45!! I am installing a new Maximera kitchen and followed IKEA's instructions, but things didn't fit right. I went over everything again, backwards, forwards, upside down and inside out, and the only conclusion that made sense was that something must be wrong with the instructions. My wife thought I was crazy -- "IKEA makes millions of these things -- do you think they're all wrong??" I looked on youtube for help and found your video. Now my wife knows I'm not crazy!! Thank you so much. I had the issue with the bottom drawer to high and then I installed all the rest of the rails up one which of course made the top of the top drawer above the cabinet, ugh!!! I knew someone would have the answers I needed on You tube. No one explains all of these steps better than you. This is the first of 22 cabinets I need to put together and I am so happy I found you to be there with me all the way. That mistake he made at the end near the 35 minute mark really screwed me bad. I had to take apart all 6 drawers I built and redo them. And 4 of the drawers were the medium and large ones making it really annoying and time consuming. This guy made double the work for me. Other than that he’s spot on with everything

When you adjust the left to right, or right to left alignment you say you turn each side the same amount but if you turn one clockwise, do you turn the other counter-clockwise? Or would you turn both clockwise or both counter clockwise? I don't understand the mechanism and unless I tore one apart, or could see an exploded diagram, it's hard to know what's actually happening in there when you turn the screw.

Hi Jenny, That would be on the printout you would receive when you designed and ordered your kitchen cabinets at IKEA. They should have provided you that printout that shows the Isometric View and the PLAN and ELEVATION VIEWS. The PLAN View identifies the cabinet numbers (very small print hard to read but it's there) then the pages that follow show each cabinet numbered according to the same numbering on the PLAN View. Hi Sissyjean, You'll be glad you found by this video then because I had the exact same problem when I did my first drawer, but the Engineer in me worked on the problem until I found the solution of how the mechanism to release the door front works. As a result I made a point in this video to show a clear instruction on how to remove a drawer front at the 13:55 and 37:00 mark. Of course for making the video I went real slow and was explaining a lot of things. Once I got the video out of the way I was able to do all the other drawers in less than 10 minutes each so don't worry about it too much. You will get the knack for it and be able to bang them all off quick I'm sure of it. Just be careful to put the correct drawer front and in the correct location and if you make a mistake I showed in the video how to remove the drawer front. Good Luck. Hi Jimmy, How are your cabinet doors overhanging? The doors are somewhat adjustable, as demonstrated in the video using the screws on the sides of the drawer fronts.

The directions have two plastic pieces and have them and those metal pieces together when you put on the drawer fronts Also, you put in one screw and it says put in three And on the directions, it clearly reads to use the holes you ended up using... You just didn't understand 🙄🙄🙄

Ok, so our drawer fronts are way too high at the bottom. We installed them according to the directions, and now I’m watching this, and at 11:45 he’s putting the brackets on opposite to what the directions say, which is what I’m assuming is the CORRECT way, because by leaving the opposite screw open it’s going to shift the drawer downward and make it fit. If you go back to 1:15 you can clearly see the directions for the brackets, and that’s definitely not how he did it at 11:45. My question is why the hell are the directions wrong?!

Thank you for your comment. The IKEA store where I bought my kitchen had staff available to assist with the kitchen design, but that was before the pandemic, so I'm not sure if they still offer that service. @@FIX-IT-Yourself yes especially if I need to use hammer and knife to open! it looks nice on video in reality, nothing working , some drawers relatively ok, but most of them impossible to open without tools , this is Lemon! and IKEA does not have proper manual.

@@garytir3836 Hi Yuri, I wouldn't say it's as bad as that. I agree the installation manuals/instructions could be better but having said that I also appreciate that they are the way they are most likely because they need to be international (language independent) so for that reason there is no written instruction and only visual instruction designed for anyone from any country any language to interpret the key information for assembly. Thanks for your helpful video. I love the soft close of these drawers but they don't seem to push open. Now thinking I might need to install handles but that isn't the look I want. Any advice? When you open them in the video they are already open or lacking flush drawers underneath/to the side (providing a gap).

Hi BB Queen, Thank you for your comment. Yes you pretty much will need to install drawer handles ( I made a video especially to show how making a jig can make it much easier to install handles - visit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKiVmImkrMaAqNk ). Without handles it becomes pretty tricky and a pain to open drawers (as you will notice from my video when I opened drawers without handles). Anyway my advice go out (or online nowadays) and shop for handle that you will like (that will suit your cabinets and your taste) and install them. Good Luck. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself!!

Your video has helped tremendously! I have the 18 inch base cabinet, the same one you explained at the beginning. I cannot for the life of me find the right adjustments for the rails and door front....it's been a long 3 hours. Time for wine...sigh
