Hello and thank you for your comment and positive feedback. I'm very glad to hear that my video gave you the confidence to tackle this job on your own and save some money. That is the reason I started my channel. I love helping people and giving them confidence to do things they should be able to do and save money at the same time. I hope your assembly goes well so please let me know how you make out. I just want to point out that there is a very tricky part during the assembly starting at the 34:20 mark at the part where the 3 large turn fasteners get installed. The trick is to ensure you don't push the two wood pieces flush together. You need to leave a bit of a gap between the two pieces to ensure the turn fasteners catch the fastener screwed into the other piece, and you need to turn each of those 3 turn fasteners a little bit at a time until you feel it start to pull the two pieces together and move from one fastener to the next each time turning each on a little bit then going to the next until you finally get all three to pull the two pieces snug together with no gap. Hope this makes sense, otherwise feel free to email me anytime at vmcasola@gmail.com or call me anytime at 416-995-4949. GOOD LUCK !!! Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

Damn, 35:25 was beyond impossible without this video, even with your help, took me and my fiancé an hour to get them secure, time and again two would latch on but the far left one could never hook, until it finally did. Awful instructions and really took some intuition and your assistance to accomplish. I’m not an X-men, so of course I can’t see through solid wood to determine the exact width the circles needed to be inserted before they could properly latch, and the fact that the 3 hard base screws were improperly spaced out didn’t help.

Thank you so much for the video, really helped. I could not get one of the large cam locks on the side panel to go in (the middle one). Will this affect the strength of the desk very much?
@FIX-IT-Yourself2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jordan, Sorry for not responding sooner. I would think that it would be difficult to properly seat the two pieces together tightly without having all 3 of those large turn fasteners full engaged. I would recommend trying to fit all 3 fasteners so they are all tight. That section is off on one side of the desk and part of the overall strength is derived from that connection so I would make sure it was good from the beginning before proceeding further with the assembly. Good Luck. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

@@Blackdog4818 Hi, So I guess you're talking about the drawer assembly steps (at 4:00 mark). The 2 long metal screws are for fastening the 2 drawers sides to the drawer front. Then once you slide the drawers sides over those screws and on the drawer front you use the grey turn fasteners to secure the sides to the front. The grey turn screws attach to those 2 metal screws you first put onto the drawer front. Hope this helps. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

@FIX-IT-Yourself2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, Yeah those two holes are made identical on both sides so you can have the drawers on either the left side or the right side of the desk. Whichever side you put the drawer on will not have any of the cam turn fasteners installed, and on the side of the desk without the drawers, you will install the turn fasteners. Hope this explanation is clear. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

Hey I purchased the same desk in black, but I purchased it in person and only had one box. When I finally got around to opening it up, all I got were the wood panels, one metal piece, and the instructions, with some paper between each panel, but no bag with the screws and such. What exactly was in your second box? Did I just get a box with missing screws, or was I missing some second box that has additional items that are needed for the desk assembly?
@FIX-IT-Yourself3 жыл бұрын
Hi, You should have received 2 boxes and it's most likely that you do not have everything you need to complete your assembly. I would go back to IKEA and tell them you were not given 2 boxes and so you don't have everything needed to complete the assembly of the desk. The video shows the 2 boxes and what was inside each. @FIX-IT-Yourself2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, At 32:52 the video just barely shows for an instant the backside of those 3 large turn fasteners (which is what is now exposed to you (now that you have put them in the wood backwards). I can see that there are 6 spiral ribs going around the fastener and also a central hex where you should be able to insert the tool that came with the package. I would suggest try putting the tool into the hex and slightly pull/twist the tool so it lodges inside the hex and either turn or jiggle the tool back and forth (as necessary whatever works) until you are able to slowly pull the fastener out of the wood. Good Luck. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

FIX IT Yourself Good Morning Hayley. Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear you had trouble with your assembly. I had the same issue and it was definitely frustrating for me as well as you will see in the video, at 35:00 mark. Watch the video again closely because I described how I thought I finally got those large turn fasteners to grab the screws. It wasn't easy and IKEA really should have done a better job designing something better so as to avoid this problem. Let me know if the video helps you solve the problem. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

@@FIX-IT-Yourself Thanks for doing this. I have to go back and do this right. Not good design by IKEA. Question was “How far into holes should wheel locks go?” That’s good question and hard to tell position of wheel locks in holes where you were able to successfully secure screws. Looks like wheel locks should not go all the way into holes. Is that correct?
@FIX-IT-Yourself3 жыл бұрын
@@mike2565 Hi Mike, Yes that part was definitely frustrating. They have the same large wheels for the IKEA MALM Bed, which I just assembled last week (and uploaded video for that). What I learned when doing the bed was that you have to be careful not to insert the screws all the way into the large holes as this will prevent the wheel turn fastener from going into the large hole thus prevent the screw from lining up inside the part of the turn fastener where it will then grab it once you turn it. It is a bit tricky. So if you watch my BED video (link is at the end of this video) then you will see that you should first insert the wheel with the arrow pointed towards where the screw fastener inserts into the small hole, but I turn the wheel a bit so the arrow is a little before twelve o'clock (like say about 11 o'clock), then I push the pieces together so the screw fastener will go in as far as it can keeping in mind it can't go all the way in because it is hitting the wheel. Then I turn the wheel and if you got it right you should feel some resistance when turning and you should feel the two pieces getting pulled together. Hope this helps. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!
@mike25653 жыл бұрын
@@FIX-IT-Yourself Just re-did this part of assembly correctly thanks to your video and someone’s bed vid. Like the arrow at 11:00 tip. A few months later I assemble an IKEA MALM bed and it had similar fasteners like these and that's when I discovered an easier way to deal with these fasteners and I think I did a better job of explaining the trick to installing them. If you go to my IKEA BED Video (use this link to find it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoeunpSqhdeKmbc, or there should be a link at the end of this video to find it) and then go to the 20:35 mark of that video to 25:51 mark. This does a much better job of explaining the issue you are facing and how to resolve it so you can get those fasteners installed. Essentially you cannot put the 2 pieces fully together, there needs to be a little bit of a gap between the pieces then install the round fasteners and then slowly turn a little bit a time each fasteners until you feel it catch the piece and it pulls the two pieces together, then you go to another fastener and do the same thing. Keep moving from fastener to fastener until you slowly bring the pieces fully tight together. Hope this help you honey. Good Luck. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

Is the layout for a drawer on the right side?
@FIX-IT-Yourself3 жыл бұрын
Hi. It can be assembled with the drawers on either the right or left side but you need to decide in advance and once you get to the certain step where you need to continue in one direction or the other then you carry on with those instructions versus the other. Hope this helps. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

@FIX-IT-Yourself2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tamir, I measured the space inside that lower door and it is 15 1/8" high x 14 1/4" wide. So it really depends on what size of desktop PC you have whether it may or may not fit. Good Luck. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!

Hi, I don't see why you couldn't use this desk for gaming. There's plenty of space to easily accommodate a desktop PC or Laptop and 2 or even 3 monitors. Vito Casola - FIX IT Yourself.!!
