I forgot to mention one point in the video that I have just spoken about the reality of Venn Diagram and not about the whole Ikigai book. OfCourse the book talks about a lot of valuable lesson but I just wanted to point out the Venn Diagram part without demining the book. I have personally read the book and I loved it when I read it. 😃

Drishti, this comment seems to contradict the thumbnail/icon that you posted for this video. It says, “Don’t read this”. The Venn Diagram is very useful. Robert Frost, a famous American poet had said something like, his goal was to make his vocation and avocation as one. I believe this Venn diagram can help us to understand ourselves, so that we can fuse our vocation with our avocation. For example, you could take singing lessons and become a really good singer whom people would pay to listen. I mean this is just an example to understand the book, I am not saying that you should take singing lessons. On the other hand, it is quite possible that once people start paying someone for singing, then at times they may feel they are singing for the money, and not really enjoying singing, especially when they are tired. I love your saying that you will post your next video whenever it is ready. Please keep that policy. Nowadays, so many KZbinrs are posting average quality videos just because they decided to post say one video a week. Thanks for posting, even though I disagree with the thumbnail/icon of this video.

For enjoying your present, you need to understand 'what are your interests?' which forms the base of ikigai book...It describes that you'll feel happiness automatically if you are busy pursuing your interests, hobbies, things you love to do...so I think this diagram is relevant for describing ikigai...I don't see any problem with that and it doesn't make sense to say that it's a lie

Hey, Drishti! When it comes to changing lives and having a good mindset, I would say the most underrated book is "The Courage to be Disliked". Its definitely not a beginner friendly book and it literally goes deep down to discuss the human psychology with a touch of Greek philosophy. But yeah don't let that scare you cause the authors have done an excellent job in presenting the whole book in the form of Dialogue. Drishti, as you read and suggests great books, you must give this a try. Cause I genuinely believe that it's the most underrated.

I felt 'Ikigai' was more like what the people from those select places had in common and a few general health tips. I didn't understand the Venn diagram as in reference to my own life. But I think the book in general inspired me to think about living a very long but purposeful life. It may not be because of this book alone, but before I never thought of living for 100+ years but now I think about it and have been making healthy choices. Thank you for making this video

That book isn't just about that one diagram.. it's kind of a journey.. and it's up to readers how they are interpreting it.. for me the book has been really helpful.. So here u have given one meaning of ikigai based on your perspective.. in book authors have given their viewpoint on ikigai.. and I am pretty much sure the amount of time and effort they have taken to reach a conclusion is much more than you have taken.. no hate for u.. just a personal opinion

There is a saying "We should never believe a thing simply because we want to believe it". when I read Ikigai, I really wanted to believe that I found my worth in living but as time passed I questioned if it is really my Ikigai. Now I am in a stage where I don't have an Ikigai, which is fine. I have also found out that purpose and ikigai are different and complementary. Now it feels acceptable as you spoke about it otherwise I wouldn't stop questioning my morality.

Hi drishti, My vision about the diagram is something different than what you said. If I LOVE to sing and I'm not good at it I've to spend 10000 hours to master it (which is written in the ikigai sequel book) and then 1. I'll be good at it 2.I'll be paid for it 3.people will demand it more! All the things take time to master. And a lot of efforts. If you just want to live happy without doing anything great which will be labelled as a remarkable thing of this world then it's okay, but if you find happiness in mastering things you should find your "ikigai" Now it's true that the meaning of happiness differ from people to people. But the venn diagram actually helps us to make us powerful and happy instead of only happy

Hi! I think this is just your perspective on how you comprehended the book through your reading and research and I really respect and appreciate it. But this book is not just about finding your “Ikigai” there’s much more. Summarising a book is not reading a book, what you’ve discussed is only one part of it. As a fellow reader I really appreciate your opinion on the Venn diagram, but it doesn’t mean that if it didn’t work out for you, so it won’t work for others. Just to bring to your notice there is also a follow up book by same authors called ‘The Ikigai Journey : A practical Guide to Finding Happiness and Purpose the Japanese Way’. Even though that Venn diagram didn’t work out for you there are some intriguing concepts and stories in the book. Also the book is merely not based on research but as you mentioned the authors have lived there for over a span of years and conducted over 100 interviews with the people of Ogimi. No hard feelings just wanted to get this out there.

Actually, I think 'dharma' is the real word which author wanted to convey but chose ikigai because the thought never crossed his mind. Take for example, Arjun from Mahabharata. He was devoted in his archery and had an immense liking towards it. He was paid for what he did in the war. The world needed him, and his skills.

I am actually grateful to see this video since I had been postponing reading this book - partially cause its prologue left me thinking it would be more of an interpretation of ikigai by two foreigners and not the crux of the actual Japanese concept. However, it might still carry some worthy thoughts cause I've received mixed reviews from my friends. I just didn't further investigate my doubt and left it there but it's refreshing to find someone talk about questioning things regularly to learn more about it .. especially on a YT video (didn't see that coming!)

Totally agree with you. 1 month se maine bhi present mei rehna start kiya hai. Zindagi thodi slow ho gyi hai and very peaceful also. And the coincidence is you make this video on the topic which I'm experiencing.

In my opinion, we should ask questions for curiosity and to improve our knowledge, understanding etc, but not to prove something wrong which hardly matters.
