Ikki68 Aurora with PE foam mod | C3 Tangerines | Aluminum plate

Keyboard: Ikki68 Aurora
Plate: Aluminum plate
Keycap: JTK Suited Assasin
Switch: C3 Tangerines (205g0, Deskey filmed 0.3mm)
Stablizer: Durock V2 (holee mod w/ 205g0)
With all poron gasket installed, 2 silicone dampener removed (the 2 showed at beginning).
I'm not very sure whether it is EPE foam or PE foam...anyway, just casually pick up a cushioning foam from a keyboard case package and cut it into my aurora.
PE foam with silicone dampener between plate and PCB make switches pop up a bit.
It's reeeeeeally loud!!!

Poron strips Def seem to help the sound more then the silicone ones lol it allows the pop to come through even without the pe foam 1 silicone in the bottom and then the poon gasket strips I feel are the move for sure lol

@Hotphot Yep. The PE foam mod basically overpowers everything in the acoustics department. I have a sunsetter built with 67g aqua kings. With rubber plate gasket, it sounds decent. Rubber plate gasket, tape mod, and shelf liner case mod sounds good. Then when you switch the rubber gasket out with the pe foam it sounds amazing. Then you remove everything but the pe foam, and it still sounds just as good. The difference is so negligible I may well only use the pe foam mod with some case dampening material like shelf liner.

you are talking about ikki68 aurora right? probably local vendor may release some extra units after all aurora are shipped. if not, I have heard that ikki68 aurora may have R2 with several improvements but will not launch in very near future imo.

I got it from my ID80 packaging. They wrap ID80 case with PE foam and I just took it and cut it to fit aurora's pcb.

these PE foam mods literally take any entry boards into jelly epoch 'contender' in terms of soundwise.. and how do you think about the risk ( I heard some mention that the mod can brings ESD that able to kill the pcb) is it worth the risk?

Apparently some PE foam is ESD protected, I think KBDfans uses ESD protected PE to package their PCBs. But even if the foam you use isn't ESD protected the sound change is absolutely worth the risk.

ESD pe foam usually has carbon embedded into it and is therefore black. Any white PE foam should be safe.

quite accurate imo. for the volume, pe foam mod tend to give you a sound profile that sounds loud, but actually I think it just boost it a bit

how??? theres no way these are tangerines, i have a number of builds with tangerines and they are generally very high pitch, even with PE foam mod, lubed and filmed, they don't sound like this.

I got my tangerine V2 from zfrontier CN, lubed with krytox 205g0 from kelowna. I lube the whole switch include top and bottom housing, and film it with Deskeys 0.3mm film. Personally I think it's the thick film makes it not that high pitch.

Minority opinion. I think your build without PE foam sounds better. This mod makes it sound too foamy.
