I bought these a few years ago, just now seeing this review as it randomly came up. Lol Love these, bought a 4.4 balanced cable and listen to them on the topping A90, and with the Zerda USB C dongle on my phone. Great review, your perspective is significant and appreciated!

I honestly think at their cost they truly deliver above what you pay for - very good sound, solid build and beautiful packaging. The sound is certainly colored but I'm a basshead so they totally float my boat. Although I already have 2 IEMs, the OH10s still remain on my radar for pure quality at a bargain price. I chose the Campfire Audio Mammoth over them for pop/rock casual listening but the OH10s continue to catch my eye for what they are.

Was waiting for this review ever since you meantioned it in another comments section 6 weeks ago. I cant believe i ended up missing it when it was new. After i got this i basically stopped buying IEMS. I couldnt inagine anything better than this for my needs at any price. The darker tips are firmer or denser and i feel like it enhances the bass but that might just be a better firmer seal or something. The other thing that makes this different is they are super heavy for an iem. On bassy tracks you can feel the weight behind them i have not felt an IEM that gave you the sense of a rumble before. It makes listening to them a tactile experience on top of an auditory one. The bass on this is balanced but the driver can handle alot more and if youbuse a bass boost or EQ it will still handle whatever you throw at it. Some IEMs wont even respond to sub bass EQ.
@PassionforSound

Very true points about the bass, Cliff. So glad you're enjoying them! I expect you're right about the firmer tips creating a better seal and therefore increasing bass a bit

Hi Lachlan, thank you for the awesome content as always. Would you consider 7Hz timeless an upgrade over the OH10? I mainly listen to pop songs with emphasis on vocals and some classic rocks occasionally. since this review is already a year old, I would like to have your opinion on the timeless vs the OH10. I am looking for my first iem purchase after a long time and has narrowed them down to these 2. Many thanks in advance!
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 жыл бұрын
I do think the Timeless is slightly better than the OH10 because the treble is better controlled, but they're still in the same ball park IMO so it's a minor upgrade only I think. I'm pretty sure the OH10 was mentioned as a comparison item in my planar IEM video so that might help 🙂

I've had the OH10 for over a year. They are so good that I rarely bother to listen to my HD600s. The old Sennheisers are a good reference point as they are fairly neutral (if a little rolled off). I agree with Lachlan that the OH10s may not be as boosted in the upper frequencies as the measurements would indicate. Or maybe we are not as sensitive to these frequencies as we age!! Either way, these are not fatiguing but are very engaging and (for my average size lug-holes) are really comfortable. I can, and do, listen until I fall asleep. Btw, Lachlan any chance of getting hold of a set of the new Ikko Asgard (no schiit) OH5 ?? These are getting some good press elsewhere and I'd value your opinion. I will probably splash out the $500 US for a set anyway.

These guys are so heavy and dense, I have found that that greatly adds to passive noise isolation aswell. They are heavy because the shells are made from solid copper. This is also something worth thinking about, shell materials can change the sound aswell. Metal will sound different to resin will sound different to plastic.

@PassionforSound

They do have a significant spike in the treble and that can cause issues for some people and not others. Ear tips can help to alter the affect slightly, but not dramatically in most cases. I'd suggest grabbing the ThieAudio Elixir as an safer and (IMO) even better option

Awesome detailed reviews! I just bought a Soloist 3X after much searching and your review on that was very helpful. Now I have a new problem as I'm getting complaints of too loud when the kids are asleep and need to think about some closed back headphones or IEM's. Any advice on which way to go first. Just for straight listening pleasure should I head down the rabbit hole of looking for a good set of closed back headphones first or IEM's first?
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 3 жыл бұрын
Glad I could help with the Soloist, Steve. That's an interesting question about the IEM vs headphone choice. IEMs will never quite match the experience of full sized headphones with their greater distance from the ear and the larger drivers, but they do offer more bang for buck. Have you tried either before to have a sense of the presentation each provides? Another consideration is that headphones are often more relaxing to wear because they're not inside your ear canal.
@sentientsteve9351
@sentientsteve9351 3 жыл бұрын
@@PassionforSound thanks for replying! I should have been clearer, I have HD6XX's and using them I'm getting the noise complaints :-) so looking at closed back's or IEM's to fix that problem. I think I'll need to go for bang for buck given I just bought the soloist and a gustard x16 DAC (both are still in the post FYI so pretty exited for the upgrade from my baby schiit stack to arrive). So for times when the kids are asleep I'll try to get by with some IEM's as a starting place. Given I'm used to the quality level of the HD6XX's would these OH10's be even close? Or would I be feeling like I'm listening to sub par using these while looking at my full size cans on their stand?
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 3 жыл бұрын
The OH10s should be comparable enough I think. They have slightly different tonality, but are overall quite warm and easy to listen to while maybe having a bit more treble than the HD6XX. I think they're a good option to not spend too much while seeing if you're happy with IEMs in general.

@@PassionforSound Price to performance Immersion for vr, imaging, staging, resolution easy to drive Price to performance is my priority as these will be used exclusively for VR gaming but im not sure how permanent a fixture VR gaming will be atm. Immersion is the goal, i want to feel like im actually there while playing resi 4 VR on a PSVR2 headset. Regular flat screen gaming i've been used to the hd800s for years and i'm aware i will not hit those heights with a reasonably priced iem (not using them as im scared they will fall off while playing vr). I will not be using my amp/dac either as an extra cable doesnt seem appropriate in vr; so something easy to drive and plug directly into the headset. Budget options i've looked at include TRUTHEAR x Crinacle Zero TRUTHEAR x Crinacle ZeroRed dioko Linsoul SIMGOT EM6L Linsoul SIMGOT EA500 Truthear HEXA final A4000 chopin ikko oh10 fiio fd5 fiio fh5 simgot ew200 aria aria snow aria 2 sennheiser ie300 Kiwi ears orchestra lite kiwi ears quartet Duni Kima If it's something i enjoy i could always upgrade at a later date to the variations, blessing 2, ie600 or even higher etc. But right now, semi decent, bang for buck is the priority. I do understand i've listed some more mid range prices and not as budget.....but if its worth the extra cost, maybe i should spend more. I had a look at Crins iem list and Hexa looked very promising but heard the staging is too small. Perhaps thats a sacrifice i might have to make for a better budget iem? Very conflicted. That's a great question. Basically, as you spend more you can generally expect improvements in some or all of: resolution of details, soundstage size, image focus, tonal accuracy, refinement (i.e. less roughness in treble, more control in bass, etc.) These Ikko OH10 are wonderful at around the 150 mark that you mention and fit your preferences well.

You can be an enthusiast without spending a whole ton of money. Its just about being smart about it. Just focus on getting something that is different from the last and appreciate the difference, then focus on which characteristic is better for you. The really expensive items are not necessarily better, but they do have characteristics the less expensive items wouldn't. For 150 USD this OH10 is hard to beat for bass warmth and soundstage. For 30 USD think about the Blon BL03 but it lacks the same Sub bass as this. Something more comparable is a Tin T2+ for 60 USD. Thats a funny one because it matchs the sub bass of the OH10, but only if you cover your ears... i think alot of the bass bleeds out of the thinner shell on those. The driver can handle it. If you want headphones for cheap try a Koss Kph30 with what some call the ultra mod

Hi Mark, I found no treble issues on my pair and I'm also quite sensitive to harsh / peaky treble. I drove the OH10 mostly from the iBasso DX300, but also from the EarMen Eagle IIRC. Neither are overly warm, but also not overly bright so source could play a part like with any IEMs.

I own the set as well and find the bass to be well extended, textured and dynamic. The treble on my set is only an issue at higher listening levels (for me, that’s between 85-90db) after around an hour. But shy if that at more reasonable volume levels, I think it performs rather satisfactorily in the treble region. There are a couple small peaks but nothing super sibilant or painful to my ears. Even after high listening levels I don’t end up all of a sudden getting wildly uncomfortable, it just becomes a bit fatiguing. Overall there is certainly plenty of presence in the treble and tho not the absolute king of detail in this price range, it still represents an excellent unique value proposition for a fun and engaging set! Espesh at the aforementioned US $159!

Superb iem, but make sure you get it from a good retailer with a good warranty. The plastic wrap ( not the film protectors you peal off the first time) around the coated brass goes away with the time :/ This is only an aesthetic problem but mine also suffered from air pressure inside my ear canal. Just sent them to my retailer after 15 months of use and i'm getting new ones. PS: be gentle with these, the cable is not so solid and the iem are so heavy, it can reduce the lifespan of your connector

Another iem that's highly recommended under the 200$ range is the fiio fh3. The fh3 and the oh10 were like the two main recommendations for a bassy set when I was searching for one. The oh10 is simply way too overpriced where I'm from and I got the fh3 instead. But I do plan to get the oh10 if they are ever available at a fair price to me. @@PassionforSound The FH3 is just stupidly good for US$130. Amazing bass speed and quality, really good mids, but the treble is a bit lacking in comparison to the bass/mids. Even so, for the price they are a go to rec for someone looking for a good sub-$300 IEM.

All things being equal, eartip bore/opening size will absolutely have an audible affect on the sound. Larger openings allow a higher volume of air to move and allows the bass to more fully develop before reaching your ear. The wider bore also mellows the treble energy, esp. 6k+. The smaller opening eartips both focus the treble energy closer to your eardrums and also remove the ability for the driver to move as much air, decreasing bass extension and impact.
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 3 жыл бұрын
I agree that eartip bore and opening play a big role, but perhaps the effects are not so predictable because I hear the exact opposite with narrower bore tips reducing treble energy. This might be to do with the interaction between the tip, insertion depth, length and shape of the ear canal. I think the best advice I can give is to try a few tips with varying bore sizes and see which is preferable based on your personal anatomy and preferences.

Low-pass filter on 20KHz and the tssssss sound is gone, but lose dynamics and detail.
