Imperial mammoth was smaller than Palaeoloxodon Namadicus
@indyreno29334 ай бұрын
But the steppe mammoth was most likely bigger than the indian straight-tusked elephant (Palaeoloxodon namadicus), hence the reason why the steppe mammoth was most likely the largest elephant that ever lived, in addition to Deinotherium giganteum being the largest proboscidean that ever lived, and Paraceratherium bugtiense being the largest land mammal that ever lived.

@BigBrotherTheWatcher1984, the smallest elephant that ever lived was the Tilos Straight-Tusked Elephant (Palaeoloxodon tiliensis) and the largest elephant that ever lived was the Steppe Mammoth (Mammuthus trogontherii), the Tilos Straight-Tusked Elephant (Palaeoloxodon tiliensis) was smaller than the Cretan Dwarf Mammoth (Mammuthus creticus), the smallest of the mammoths and the Steppe Mammoth (Mammuthus trogontherii) was bigger than the Indian Straight-Tusked Elephant (Palaeoloxodon namadicus), Deinotherium giganteum was bigger than both the Steppe Mammoth (Mammuthus trogontherii) and the Indian Straight-Tusked Elephant (Palaeoloxodon namadicus) thus making Deinotherium giganteum the largest proboscidean that ever lived and Paraceratherium bugtiense was larger than every proboscidean that ever lived and almost the size of some of the largest sauropod dinosaurs thus making Paraceratherium bugtiense the largest land mammal that ever lived.

Once a wildly successful group of mammals, eerily many elephantids went extinct just because hominins ate them.

The area you are asking is too specific. I have in my fiture plans to do animals size comparison by continents. May be after that I could start doing size comparisons for smaller areas as you requested.

Big animals need a lot of food. It doesn't take much of a shift in environment to wipe out a population, and last thirty thousand years or so have been a massive roller coaster for the climate. Later mammoths and elephants also were strongly targeted by humans, were were spreading out across the globe and getting much better at hunting around the downfall of the last mammoths. The mammoths never really had predators that posed much of a threat to a healthy full grown adult before humans. Most previous predators had targeted the sick, injured, or very young...the easier prey. Humans didn't care about the physical provess of whatever mammoth they were targeting.

There are difference between mammoths and elephants
@indyreno29333 ай бұрын
@The_Dirt_Block, elephants are defined by the family Elephantidae as a whole, therefore mammoths are elephants, in fact, mammoths are the youngest and most derived genus of elephant to have ever diverged and their closest living relatives are the asiatic elephants (genus Elephas), surprisingly, the largest elephant that ever lived is the steppe mammoth (Mammuthus trogontherii), which weighs about 18 tons.
