THIS IS HOW TO RELIC, scalpels, files, small tools. Carefully placed strikes, cuts and scratches. Always using reference photos and try to copy for authenticity, several different references can be used, if you are not replicating a specific instrument. This is the first KZbin video, that I have come across, that has the proper approach. Well done man.

Please put safety glasses on when using wire wheels on Dremel tools. I had one fly off into my eye once, and it was an absolute nightmare to get it out. Really lucky it didn't cause any lasting damage. Otherwise, absolutely beautiful work. You've got a great eye for detail, protect it!

The red dye used at the Gibson factory in '59 fade more slowly. I use a dye that is more sensitive to light as I need the result much faster. But if I want to prolong the fading process, then I will add a composition of dyes of different sensitivity. This way I can calculate the approximate fading time.

This makes very small, not deep, chaotic scratches of varying intensity. The more cycles the more realistic the result.

miles better than the sloppy Gibson and Historic Makeovers jobs. It's reletively easy to do a light relic, but most fails when going with a heavy one. A thin finish is key for a good result. You nailed the back color hue too

Да, влияет. Так же как и усыхание древесины. При низких температурах изменяется структура клетки и изменяются свойства смол. Но это очень тонкий момент. В данном случае заморозка в основной задаче выполняет растрескивание лака и снятия напряжений в узлах.

@@8BombCustom усыхание это естественный процесс и именно усыхание приводит к известному и «тому самому» результату. Имхо замораживание это слишком большой компромисс для настолько высоко задранной планке аутентичности. Знаете наверняка про заморозку сжатым воздухом из баллончика. Это, мне кажется, более щадящий метод, при том что воздействовать холодом можно именно на то что должно потрескаться, а глубокие слои дерева, накладку грифа, он не затронет.

the hardest part in my opinion would be getting a hold of a chunk of maple that matches very close to the original. the flame is fairly tight and very active with some blistering and quilt figuring in spots. its not what we refer as to aaa+ today but is in between kinda still hi pretty grade. ide look st re purposing old wood from antique furniture wen possible..the relic job you did is fantastic! nailed it.. to relic Gibson is alot harder than doing a stratocaster. most look ok at best but this ones spot on!
