This version of Il Barbiere is so perfect, my three favourite singers on the same stage and I also really liekd the staging/ production. The version from Covent Garden with Florez and DiDonato is also a favourite of mine, I would not be able to choose between the two, but luckily I don't have to :-). Such amazing singing! JDF is the definite Almaviva for me.

The Covent Garden version lacks Mattei so the Met's is clearly preferable on that account alone.
@misssophie65152 жыл бұрын
@@NYCOPERAFAN you're right, I will never understand why there are no other DVDs/ recordings of Peter Mattei as Figaro, he is the best 😢 these days he often does difficult stuff like Woyzek and Kindertotenlieder and such, which are just not my thing, but he is my favourite baritone and I heard him live twice in the last year, once singing the Winterreise and once as the Count in Le Nozze, which was wonderful - but judging by your alias you are in luck, because you might have the chance to hear him in the upcoming Met productions?
@NYCOPERAFAN2 жыл бұрын
@@misssophie6515 Yes I always make a point of seeing him at least once in virtually every Met production he takes part in (though I have already seen him sing Don Giovanni 3-4 previous times and that's the new production he's in this upcoming season). He's my favorite of all the opera singers performing today.
@misssophie65152 жыл бұрын
@@NYCOPERAFAN Lucky you, I would like to see him as DG over here so much, but didn't get the chance yet. People in NYC are twice lucky this season, with PM also singing Don Carlos at the Met at the end of the year! I hope the new DG production will be nice, with the new productions you never know, but I am really hoping for a marvellous recording to enjoy from afar at least! Have fun!

There are no better and best, at that level they are all very good. I'm also in love with the production of the Paris National Opera with Sacca, DiDonato and Shausson from 2002 and the one with Florez, DiDonato (in wheelchair), Spanioli, Corbelli and Furlanetto of the ROH from 2009. Madrid 2005 with Florez, Baya, Spanioli and Raimondi is also very good. Don't you think however that if Florez is involved, he always steels the show? I thing Mardid 2005 is the same case, I think Spanioli looks quite disappointed during the curtain bows although he is very good too.
