for me this is such a fantastic touching scene. we have the different characters approaching god in different ways . we have the opened hearted sort of innocent heart of the dutchman who doesn't blame god and can get down on his knees and approach and embrace his love (almost like a child) we have the irishman (who's been deeply hurt and bruised by actions from god's people .some of the clergy who have exercised their free will to abuse their power and leave a trail of destruction ) so he finds it incredibly hard to approach god and his love ,and before he can he has to let go of all his pain and hurt and woundedness . (i feel most of us are like the irishman in one form or another; i certainly see myself in the irishmen's category.;the heart cry is "can i open my wounded closed down heart to trust god again ,or am i going to be let down and left high and dry again ;it can be a huge internal battle and i've seen people with incredible courage make the leap of faith into god's arms of comfort . ) but to his credit and from a bit of momentum from the others he does it . swims through his collected garbage to be cleansed on the other side . man i bet they had some HOT prayers on this one to get it so good.
