I am torn on what setting I enjoy more, orchestra or winds. Both are so gorgeous! Such a great contribution to clarinet repertoire and magnificently played by Jose Franch-Ballester.

great idea of including a cello. Sounds really good so with the strings together. I love this concerto so much.

That's typical for spanish concert bands and spanish compositions since the last century. The historical background is that under the fascist reign in Spain in the first half of the 20th century, many professional symphony orchestras were shut down due to cost cutting, while the mostly amateur wind/brass bands were tolerated. Many Cello players joined the winds so they could at least still play in some sort of Orchestra. And they stayed. While you find a Contrabass or electric bass in many wind bands, inspired by the American big bands, Celli in wind bands are rare in other countries than Spain. But yes, it sounds so good, glues things together so well. We currently play this concerto in my home town and we "borrowed" two cellists from the symphony orchestra. This performance here is superb! We can't play it this fast and this flawless.

Really good concert band. Great solo. I thought it was an orchestra until I looked at the screen. Oh, looked again -- some orchestral instruments. Not a concert band, strictly speaking. Whatever.
