Sliding is one thing but it takes a little bit more than a man with two sacks to slide around monaco.
@EmilRJohanssonRacing2 жыл бұрын
You should set aside an evening sometime and watch the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix if you haven't already. Back then, powersliding wasn't how you saved an otherwise fast lap, _it was how you set a fast lap to begin with_

Micheal driving with an over steering style is actually really smart. Think about it if he is getting as much power down as he can without slipping, he is putting the car to the absolute limit and leaving each corner as fast as the tires allow him. Very smart
@ThePanthersdkfz7 жыл бұрын
I heard Schumacher had an oversteery style but this video takes that to another level. Great job with that compilation :D

It's one thing to setup the car to have a loose rear end and another thing to do a powerslide. But you are right about MS.
@Cynderfan356 жыл бұрын
i would say the 1996 Ferrari he was driving, was not the car he liked. It probably was naturally oversteering more than he liked, yet he controlled it, pushing it beyond its normal limits.

Shame that brilliant Alesi never became World champion. He was one who had it in him. But damn, I miss the late 80's/ beginning 90's F1. (Mansell, Alesi, Berger, and of course Ayrton Senna!!) That kind of F1 is never to be seen again, cars of today do not tolerate that aggressive style.

His own fault. He had an offer from Williams but went to the mess that was Ferrari instead. That was a mistake which destroyed his career. I don't really understand that decision. I'd say the focus has shifted over the years. Nowadays the entertainment aspect of the sport seems to be all about (DRS-assisted) overtakes and the tactical game. People are always talking about how we need more overtakes. Back in the 90's there were less overtakes and tactics were more basic and less discussed about. But on the other hand, just watching the cars being driven around the track was much more entertaining, so that kind of made up for it. Personally, I think overtakes are a bit overrated anyway. When it comes to racing, I care more about the battles - one driver is defending, the other is looking for a way to get past. Sometimes the overtake happens, but that's not as important as the battle itself. DRS allows faster cars to overtake and build gap to slower cars more quickly, which reduces the time drivers are actually fighting for positions. I think the one thing which DRS genuinely improves are those rare situations when cars with evenly matched pace race against each other.

Actually sliding is slower than grip driving time wise..(not talking about slight over steer) And the sport has been doing it’s best to reduce the chances of having to do it. That’s why the way cars run looks boring.

Apparently he could have stayed for 1996, but he did not want to be a second driver. Similarly to you, I was a fan, but he was really fighting with the car, rather than driving them and there are rumours that he was not great in setting up the car. There was one video on Driver61's channel about driving on the limit does not mean sliding constantly and he explained pretty well why Jean's style was ineffective. Besides, the V12 made the car really unstable during deceleration which was not liked by neither Berger or Alesi. However, this did work with MS's driving style and he really liked the V12 and preferred over the new V10. Unfortunately making the car instable wasn't the only issue withe V12. It was heavy, drank a lot and lost quite a bit of its power during a race.

@alistersutherland36882 жыл бұрын
We just don't see this kind of magnificent driving in F1 anymore. In-car nowadays the drivers look like they're out for a cruise in the 'burbs. No more heel and toe downshifting in the corner set-up, no more feathering the throttle as the car is balanced on a knife edge while drifting through the corner, no more power slides to the exit with opposite lock while feeding in the throttle to carry as much speed as possible onto the straight. I'm not saying today's drivers aren't good. Lewis Hamilton, Verstappen, et al yes, of course they're good, but I don't think Hamilton would have the record he does without Mercedes, and I doubt any driver today could beat the likes of Senna, Stewart, or Schumacher over the course of a season in real race cars.
