Very good. Well done. It makes a change to hear someone who seems to know what they are talking about, unlike 95% of all the other reviewers on Y.T.

Maybe a dumb question, and maybe I missed it - but was the XP2 developed in C-41 or using the same Rodinal stand technique?

A superb comparison of my two favourite films. Ii've only shot both at box speeds upto now. I'm now going to pull them both to ISO 50 as you have done and check out the results. Thanks again!

You mean, "Go shoot some film, PLEASE." I use XP-2 regularly, mostly in 120. If I'm developing color film, I go with C-41 or more usual, ECN-2 chemistry. If I'm developing B&W, XP-2 becomes different films, depending on the B&W developer used. XP-2 appears to have red sensitivity, since clouds stand out without using any filter. Adding a red or an 85-b filter brings out even wispy clouds for dramatic effect. I like HC-110b

I gave up the please in 2010- people just needed to shoot more film and look at the great results my direct speak had- film sales are up and we are still talking about film in 2024 😄

So in the video I mention the usable EI range- at lower settings like 25/50/100 something like 30 minutes is best-- 45 minutes is best for 100/200/400/640 and 90 minutes is best for 400/800/1600+ but having said that the negative will scan just fine as dense is better than thin and the highlights will be controlled Due to the processing technique…

hey steve. Interesting post. I prefered the fomapan ever so slightly. I did notice that the fomapan did blow the highlights (the hair light on the left of your wife's hair) not like that really matters. I scanned and edited the rolls i did the rodial and hc110( i used ILFOTEC HC as i live in uk and couldn't source hc110) and wow a portrait i made was beautiful. tonal range was endless. It did scan flat which is something i have to get used to. Like you stated its impossible to blow the highlights. I mean IMPOSSIBLE. I used hp5 at E.I200. I normally develop with ilford ID11 at 1+2. gives a completely different look which is great for options. I look forward to see how you scan.

It is an amazing film... the hair is actually there but I suspect the video compression is causing the issue.... but either way I would be happy. More soon...... Viva la Revolution- Steve

@@FIGITALREVOLUTION oh ok. You summed it well that xp2 is rather like a t grained Film. I’m a sucker for some grain though. I contacted fomapan headquarters to see if they still to shipments to the uk and sadly the don’t anymore.

@@lensman5762 you used to be able to buy direct from fomapan. It was MUCH cheaper. I went to buy a 20 rolls and the option for delivery to the uk had been removed. I contacted them and they confirmed they now no longer ship to the uk. It has to do with brexit and the uk no longer being part of the E.U. I’m sure you can still purchase it was photo stores but the “direct from source” is no more

Hello Steve? Thank you so much for all these insights about film exposure lattitudes and stand development. I’ve learned a lot from your videos, and I’m very happy with delta 400 stand developped in dd-x. How about xp2 stand in dd-x? Would you go for 45 minutes as well?

If I overexpose a stop to iso 50. Should I tell the developer and develop the film at iso 50? Or just the normal development will be fine . I am new to film photography so got this one to ask thx.
@FIGITALREVOLUTION
@FIGITALREVOLUTION 2 жыл бұрын
So Fomapan 100 at EI 50 be just fine with standard development- XP2 Super if processed in C41 will also be just fine overexposed- you can with C41 process that film from EI 50-640 with no issue.

I’m really loving these XP2 tests, what a great film! Have you experienced problems (unevenness) with plastic reels in stand development? I’ve read some people have. I’m going to follow your directions for HC 110 with the first 120 rolls. Thank you!

For stand development I only use metal OR the larger JOBO reels- Patterson and the smaller JOBO tanks have reels that are perfect for normal processing but in my experience not great for stand development.
