While I am primarily a Yuzuru Hanyu fan, he's retired and the competition is looking for another superstar. I think it's found it in the person of Ilia Malinin. He has the charisma (although it's quite different from Yuzu) and the technical skill but what is most notable about this first competition for him in this season is that his PCS score is now quite impressive. In fact, he seems a totally different skater from last where he swept through the season primarily on his high technical skills, particular on the 4A which he performed several times and at this point seems to be the only one doing it. What is really impressive though is that last season he said in interviews that he was going to work hard on improving his PCS numbers. Quite evidently he's been doing it and at this competition he literally blew the competition out of the water or should I say off the ice. I think we are about to enter the age of Malinin and while he will not dislodge Yuzu' s position as the greatest skater of all time I think he is about to put his stamp on figure skating for the remainder of this decade.

Ваш Ханю посредственный фигурист которого кое как облагородили в Канаде плюс он получил поддержку влиятельной школы Орсера.Но каким он вышел на взрослый уровень все помнят.Ноги кое как ото льда отрывал,плечи согнуты,линий никаких,грязь на всех элементах.Вот таким он был и зачем вы тащите своего Ханю под прокат Ильи?Илья это Илья ,он другой и он будущая звезда фигурного катания уже совершившая прорыв в технике.В физических возможностях и таланте ему нет равных

​@@yulysolgunter2057а разве Ханю не отправили к Орсеру после того, как Ханю занял третье место на чм 2012 года? Может увидели скрытый потенциал большой, а Орсер его и открыл. У Ю. Ханю к тому же 17 лет или восколько там, техническое оснащение и без особого артистизма тогда позволило занять место на пьедестале сразу за двумя лидерами. Значит, всё-таки и техника у него была нормальная, и харизма присутствовала, а орсер помог это развить, поэтому к нему походу и отправили

I think it is called a butterfly twist. I could be wrong but I think it's just one lateral rotation. It's good to have signature moves like that.

@@Timzart7 I think that seeing the normal butterfly feels kinda like a waltz jump and this feels like an Axel, so it has a full rotation *extra* to the basic and thus it felt like "double" to me 😅

@@luablau I was wrong. I watched one in slow mo off ice on KZbin and it is the same rotations as an Axel, one and a half (therefore not a "double") but it's more like a one-foot Axel, since it lands on the same foot as the take-off. Still, this is properly called a "butterfly twist" because of the butterfly entrance and the more lateral twist. When you think about it, adding a full rotation to a half jump does not make it a double.

I'm still not a fan, but I have to admit that he has indeed improved on his artistry, but still has a long way to go, he continues so be stiff in some movements, his jumps are ok, but I will give him extra love for skating to the masterpiece that is the Succession soundtrack

“His jumps are ok” he is a very rare talent when it comes to jumps. If you only care about artistry go watch contemporary dance instead of an athletic sport. Maybe they should split skating into two categories, one for athleticism and another for “artistry” so all the pretentious holier-than-thous can snoot their noses and act like their subjective opinion about art is better than athleticism.

Согласна, думаю недостаточно ещё времени для вкатывания этой программы, зато короткая была великолепна, мне очень понравилась короткая и он в ней очень органичен, и костюм в короткой ему идёт, прямо непривычно взросло смотрится. Успехов мальчик тебе в будущем.

Поэтому и так называемая "американская школа" в фигурном катании работает. Заметьте, что и китайцы, и русские - труженники, сильные духом. Вы сами привели пример двух "американских" фигуристов - китайца Чена и русского Малинина - двух сильнейших фигуристов нашего времени. Они являются символами двух самых талантливых государств: России и Китая. Поэтому с ними и ведет борьбу Запад во главе с США.

Так что ваша версия об американской школе фигурного катания с треском провалилась. В 90х многие фигуристы уехали тренеровать в США: Роднина, Тутберидзе, семья Ильи и другие. Но кто-то там остался, а кто-то возвратился в Россию. Так что школа фигурного катания одна - российская. И где бы русские не находились, они всегда первые.

Jumping is still his strong point. He had short preparation and TR and rotated so fast here he got the jumps done even if some of them didn't have much height and distance. Performance-wise, while this was not a very captivating outing, I'd give him the benefit of doubt since this is still early season. In other aspects, I can see mediocre SS, stiff knees and the lack of flow have not been improved much. PS: I hope he's watched the series that inspired this program. It would serve him well understanding what he skates to and the nuances of the choreographic details rather than just listening to whatever his choreographer said.

It's interesting you should say that because aside from Ilia's quad Axel, which is huge, his other quads have always looked small to me, not getting much height, and so they don't look nearly as exciting or impressive as Nathan Chen's. In some ways, they don't even look like the same jumps.

@@L1623VP Well TBH Nate's jumps look small to me too. And he also has very fast rotational speed. In terms of TR and the 4A Ilia is definitely better. Everything else about their jumps is the same for me.

@@yoru3107 Nathan's jumps are huge. His opening quad lutz in his '19 Worlds LP and his '22 Olympics LP look completely different than Ilia's quad lutz. Even their flips look different. It's like Nathan has more hang-time than Ilia. I don't know how Ilia gets all his rotations in, but whatever he's doing seems to be working for him.

@@L1623VP это оптическая иллюзия ,чем длиннее тела фигуриста тем ниже кажутся его прыжки.Я сначала думала его 3А маленький,но когда его замерили в Японии он был выше 70см.Но я была уверена что он не выше 60см.Ваше зрение фокусируется на длинном теле,поэтому кажется что расстояние ото льда до ног маленькое.И Наоборот расстояние ото льда до ног кажется больше у коротких фигуристов

Ugh that spin at the end. Thank god they gave that level 2. The choreo is too ambitious for him to fill out. It’s obvious he’s putting in more effort in to the artistry, but his attitude has been so petulant about it, like “do I have to? Don’t waaana. If I were gay I’d be scored higher just the way I am.” (Never moving past that.) I can jump and that’s enough, right? There’s seemingly no passion behind the skating itself or any desire to improve upon it.

sorry, but I'm not seeing much improvement in components. empty, rather slow choreography to set up for the jumps, a bit of quirky choreo at the end. very similar to the euphoria fs. kudos to him for proper jump technique, but his pcs is going to rise like nathan's I'm afraid and not truly reflect what he puts on the ice
