He fought a striker and KO’d him using striking, then he fought a grappler and submitted him and now he fought another great striker and beat him standing.

I think he was playing it safe. Whenever you go for a takedown there is a chance you fail and it can turn into a ground and pound opportunity for the other guy. There is also a small chance you recieve a full on punch on the face while dashing. He was just having too much success with his striking plan. He is a better striking than Emett as well, so he thought the smartest choice was to keep it going. It made sense, although there were some points of the fight in which the takedown would have been the optimal move imo (easier said than done though).

There is a one clear attribute I have seen consistently with future champions in their fights leading up the championship: control of tempo. Volk, Izzy, Jones etc went the distance multiple times and never got in serious trouble and were able to dictate how they were going to win. They established that they were winning and if their opponent opened up and took risks they got the finish. Ilia has shown that and showed that again this past weekend. He won the fight from the first bell, was never in a risky spot, and STILL 50-42’d Emmett. I would say the Ilia is a lock for a championship except that the guy who’s at the top is probably going down as one of the pound for pound greatest ever. Either way, I can’t wait for that fight, which looks like it may be coming early 2024 🤞🏻

Remember the time when Paddy was clowning on him and everyone was on Paddy's side? Just goes to show that hype only gets you so far if your skills don't match it at that time. Paddy still has alot of potential, he just needs to stop being so cocky about his skills cause we've seen he's very hittable and gets into dangerous situations often. Fix those holes and improve your skills rather than eating til your gut hangs. The hard work will always show, look at Khabib vs Conor, both very skilled but Khabib is always training and Conor often has his off days where he gets intoxicated, letting the money and fame get to his head. We've seen Paddy do the same, he's skilled offensively, but can get caught easily... put him against someone 1 punch KO power who can exploit that and it's over. Anyway, I hope Ilia doesn't let his success ruin him as well. I can tell he's hungry for the belt so I have high hopes for him, excellent boxer. Maybe his gas tank can be exploited by someone like Max cause we've seen him slow down later in the rounds, but maybe that was just him being patient 🤷‍♂ We'll see soon as he fights the top 5 or for the belt

What a wonderful interview! I don't agree with everything Ariel says but he is # 1 when it comes to interviewing the fighters. Ilia + Georgina seem like a well matched beautiful power couple. The comments people left after viewing the "short" of him + her walking the path, to the dressing room right after the fight, were very disrespectful. They talked about Georgina like she was trashy + with him just because of his popularity + wealth. I guess the comments were mostly from guys so that's to be expected. Honestly its not talked about enough how the situation at 145 with Volk and Max and 185 with Izzy and Rob is unprecedented in MMA history; this has never happened before. In prior years the former champ now #1 contender always got bumped off by a surging contender not long after losing to the champ twice, but Max and Rob keep winning and doing the champs dirty work while surging contenders keep failing to beat them. Max fought Volk three times, Rob will most likely get a trilogy fight with Izzy later this year. At this point any contender who gets into the top 5 on a win streak should get an automatic title shot instead of having to fight the former champ turned #1 contender gatekeeper, as all that does is clog the division and we're essentially forced to see Volk vs Max 4 or Rob vs Izzy 3.
