8 years ago, a decent mechanical/auto with sapphire and ceramic was almost unheard of at a price below $500. So every time a see a review like this, I keep that in mind.
@JimIBobIJones2 жыл бұрын
They were out there, just not coming out of China and were much more niche - you could have gotten all of those and have it swiss made for less than $500. Steinhart, Christopher Ward (at least back then - now they have pushed themselves up market a fair bit), Precista etc. were all around back then and making excellent watches at very budget friendly prices. IMHO the OG microbrands were, and are, much better quality and aren't just aliexpress mushroom brands pumping out generic homage designs coming out of the same factory just with different brands.
@kobusvanrensburg40922 жыл бұрын
@@JimIBobIJones any you can recommend off the top of your head?
@JimIBobIJones2 жыл бұрын
@@kobusvanrensburg4092 Timefactors/Precista would be my first port of call - they are UK based and caters heavily to watch buffs with designs based on historic/classic models. They have bought and revived quite a few defunct British watch brands and are probably the best value for money in terms of build quality and movement at the moment. Steinhart (Germany company but Swiss made) is pretty decent as well - a good mix of original designs, homages and "Flieger" type pilot watches, so something for everyone. Aristo is another German one, with mostly original designs. Swiss watch prices have been creeping up consistently for a while now with ETA restricting supply, so a lot of brands that started around the $500 mark 10 years ago start considerably over that point (e.g. Stowa, Christopher Ward, Junghans, etc.). If Swiss made isn't a "must have", your options are much broader and include plenty of watchmakers who aren't just another Aliexpress micro-brand. Gerlach is a pretty decent Polish brand that makes "heritage"/historical designs using a mix of different movements. Their Seiko/Seagull equipped watches are comfortably under the $500 mark. Great if you like the style of Longines heritage watches but don't want to spend $1500-300 0 on them. Orient has also really improved their build quality since being wholly integrated into Seiko. Most of their new models come with Sapphire and they've even made bronze models of some of their watches (something the "real" Seiko still hasn't).
@LymanPhillips2 жыл бұрын
I keep on hearing "decent for the price," and I'm thinking at triple the price you'd be lucky to get a Seiko anywhere close. A few minutes fixing the bracelet and the bezel and you'd have an amazing watch for $100.

I saw one with the white dial and bracelet. I thought wow that looks nice. I saw it at £53 including tax and delivery. I kid you not. So I bought the damn thing. Would have been a fool not to at that price. Never owned a Cadisen before. Will be handy at 38mm and that parchment coloured dial looks classic. In a shop in the UK would cost £300+ for this spec.
@swilkobarfingtoniii16422 жыл бұрын
Deffo looks better on the tropic rubber, and if Cadisen would ship it without the steel it could shave a few more sheckles off the top end. Nice '62 MAS homage though. The dial details are really good on this one!

If San Martin's offering shared these proportions it would've been perfect. I want a San Martin 60's skin diver with these proportions. The mismatch in the daylight color of the lume between hands and indecies is distracting.
@evanspivack27142 жыл бұрын
I ordered mine at the start of the sale, cream on the silicone strap. I usually prefer bracelets, but the silicone really seems the way to go with this watch, especially in the cream. If I'm being picky, I'd have preferred a purer white dial, but I think this will be a stunner. And finally, 38mm...perfect size!

Pagani Design use the same clasp there are three positions of micro adjust, very difficult to move though, spring bar sits in indents in the clasp. The divers extension is also difficult and takes considerable force to open out and likewise to close it. It is quite difficult to see the micro adjustment indents by the way.
@mbaksa2 жыл бұрын
I was never able to use those micro adjusts - it's basically useless on my bracelet. It's like there is nothing to grab with spring bar tool to compress the spring and get the spring bar out of the hole. It's like it was installed the wrong way on my bracelet, and now it cannot be taken out without braking the spring bar. Diver's extension on my bracelet works good - as expected, no issues.

Cadisen sounds like a type of insect. NH35 is a decent movement and it looks an attractive watch, though. Problem for me: I’m lazy and I’m used to quartz watches, and most of mine have solar power, and some have radio sync. Perfect for someone like me who can’t be bothered: if it’s solar powered, leave it on a windowsill, no worries about winding, and if it’s also radio sync it’ll probably get the signal daily.
@marcjames3487 Жыл бұрын
I just received the 8208 ~ basically the same but I preferred the blue dial and gold hands with the date at 4.30. Good accuracy and I love the hand winding. Lack of AR coating on the slightly domed sapphire is a shame, especially because the blue dial is deep and shadowed by the bezel so the dial can be hard to read at an angle. Bracelet is poor, as you say so I'm waiting a silicone replacement. But for the price, excellent value ! Excellent review !
@darkchocolate4643 Жыл бұрын
I got this watch, albeit with the grey dial, based on your video and I couldn't be happier. I'm not sure why I bought it as I already have a Tandorio 62Mas homage, but you know how it goes. I decided against the stainless steel bracelet because, for one, my Tandorio has one, and I also wasn't a fan of the polished center links on the Cadisen's bracelet. The silicone strap is alright. I haven't had any issues with it picking up lint, to be honest. I'll probably replace it with a good quality tropic strap at some point. I'm blown away by the finish on this watch, especially considering that I paid 56€ for it (thanks to a store coupon and a coin discount). The bezel is lovely, the resistance is quite stiff on mine. And it lines up absolutely perfectly too. No backplay whatsoever. I know the QC on Chinese watches can be a bit inconsistent, maybe I just got lucky. The NH35 is quite accurate too, at +4s/day. If I had to nitpick, I'd say that the printing on the Cadisen logo on the dial looks a bit cheap, but you'd have to look really closely to see it. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have been eyeing this one! I have several Cadisens and all of them are great value watches. For the money, it’s hard to beat a Cadisens or Tandorio! They are both a lot of watch at their price point.

Thanks for the review! I’ve got one on order. Have a small wrist so like the size. Weak lume is okay for me as I have many vintage watches and most have weak lume. It's OK, the watch is a decent offering. I like the colour too. It doesn't have a box domed crystal like other 62MAS homages do, but it has a rehaut with printed minute markers instead. Not crazy about the polished-middle-link bracelet. This would live on a nice FKM rubber strap if it was mine. If this bezel was matt ceramic it would be amazing though.

Great watch. Dive extension pin too thin to lock the dive extension in place, which was pretty damn stupid of Cadisen to do that... Maybe thick tape might work around the pin, or a steel collar. A Rolex type clasp is pretty stupid too. Screw pins come off super easily from the bracelet, so make sure you loctite the screw pins if you plan to use the metal bracelet. I had the pins screw out three times already, and I was lucky that they fell out while I was on the bed, and also on a table

I think San Martin's is 20mm, and that's what ruins the proportions on the smaller case, making it look strangely elongated. Looks fine on a 40-42, not a 36-38. 18mm seems necessary to keep good proportions on the smaller 38mm case in this style.

90 click bezels irritate me - 60 or 120 are fine (a small thing I know, but there it is). Looks better off the bracelet the polish is a big no on this type of watch.
