The first generation acts largely like they would at "home" the second generation adopts a lot of local culture and by the third generation they are largely identical as far as cultural mores and norms are considered. Some nation's are really terrible at the integration part, France comes to mind. But our nation has a history of immigration by poor/undiserable people. The Irish in the 19th century are a perfect example. Huge families, Catholicism, low literacy rates. 150 years later they are one of our more valued immigrant groups. Taxes which would help our infrastructure and local programs. It makes no sense to illegalize them because you would only be harming your fellow American. They could also form unions if legalized creating better work enviroments overall. The entire reason why work enviroments aren't great is because normal citizens are undocumented. So Document them.

All that would encourage and reward illegal behavior even more The reason I say this is because my mom, a Mexican herself, along with her sisters, mother, and brother, also coming from Mexico, use to be Democrats until her dad found out the truth and switched over to the republican side. They came legally and they agree with me and most of the party. And my mom, coming from her anyways, says she never felt oppressed and those who say other wise are only trying to put others down

He's lying to you about economics.

Edgar Nackenson from most of the literature I see, immigration has a net positive effect on total economic strength, but a decrease/stagnation of wages for lower class. Honestly can you link to how this is wrong?

@@PROcrastinatingnao The first pertinent thing I found is this Politifact article: www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2017/aug/08/do-low-skilled-immigrants-negatively-impact-wages-/ It actually directly assesses the Borjas study talked about by this video, and mentions some studies that found it neutral to positive. On that note, there's always the straight up original Mariel Boatlift study, which that study was attempting to refute. I also looked for studies. I found this one: pubs.aeaweb.org/doi/pdfplus/10.1257/jep.9.2.23 which, on skipping right to the conclusion, says "There is no evidence of economically significant reductions in native employment." Here's the second: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1542-4774.2011.01049.x. That one concludes with, "The UK has experienced a significant rise in immigration over the past 30 years, without any appreciable effect on the average wages and employment of native-born workers. So, I think that's enough to conclude that wages are at least not meaningfully impacted. I misspoke a bit though. My sense of it is that wages are pretty much neutral in the short run, with some pockets hit worse than others, while the economy as a whole, as you note, is the thing that's neutral to positive. Which means, of course, that laborers themselves are broadly benefited. Also, gotta point out here, the video straight up lies about that study. He says it shows a drop in wages for high school graduates, when it was explicitly looking into just high school dropouts, which is the exact opposite. Might have just been an error, but it's one that I think really changes his argument.

I quizzed her about this seeming contradiction, and she just gave me a schpiel about the US being an imperialist nation that plundered the land, the US is racist and has no identity, and in general it's not a contradiction in terms because the US is the US and NZ is NZ. Other countries are perfectly well allowed to strictly control their borders, in order to secure a stable society and economy for their people, and it's not nationalism or racism or any ism, but if anyone in the US wants to do so it's definitely white supremacy, racism, xenophobia, etc. It's just how modern-day leftists think.

It's why she's a "progressive" -- the "progress" she supports being anything that moves us in the opposite direction to what the founding principles, US values, liberty, individualism, etc. have produced. Sometimes it seems the only philosophical question with such folks is whether or not there's anything worth salvaging -- do they want to "reform" or is complete "revolution" necessary? or its that this country was built on ideals of letting in immigrants. How do you think we all got here? (everyone that wasn't indigenous)
@SinuousGrace6 жыл бұрын
@@evanwhite5704 Ideals you say? The country, at one time, DESPERATELY needed laborers. We weren't importing workers out of the kindness of our hearts. We needed people to come here, work HARD, and become Americans with a shared language, values, and culture. We got a pithy poem at the foot of the Statue of Liberty to commemorate this time and the sentiment. But that poem was not a statement of policy nor of principle. We don't need huge amounts of laborers now -- in fact, we've imported a fantastically enormous underclass now, which has caused a severe and multi-generational glut (excessively abundant supply) in the unskilled and blue-collar labor market, having the very predictable effect of depressing wages for these roles while at the same time giving a generous financial assistance to employers who can pay interchangeable workers extraordinarily low wages with no benefits and no employer taxes. And then we get people who have the brazen audacity to claim "Americans don't want to do those jobs" and "Americans can't afford to work for those low wages." Yah, NO SHIT. The competitive advantage of illegal workers is insurmountable. We're also facing an unprecedented shift in technology -- robotics, autonomous transport and drones, synthetic cognition systems, and predictive algorithms are forecast to obviate an immense swath of physical and intellectual labor roles over the next 15-30 years. We do not need more workers because the fact is we're going to be entering perilous territory where more current roles are being automated away than new roles are being created, and at some point every new role will be better filled by a digital system than by a squishy human. It could be a nightmare, but it will be a whole lot worse if we continue to import more people. A nation-state has the right to define who gets to come in, who gets to stay, who gets to reap the benefits of the sum of that nation-state's efforts and principles. The United States, like every nation-state on the planet, says you must have PERMISSION to enter if you want to enter. We want some immigration -- we want the right types of people, ones we believe will properly BECOME Americans and embrace our shared language, values, and culture, as well as bring something of their OWN to the table. We want good people, and especially we want people who will help build the economic freedom and prosperity of the nation-state -- just like when we desperately needed laborers -- but this time we want and need those who can help build the technological infrastructure of the future. And that is a very select group. And we have the right to decide who and how many we grant that permission to. And we have LAWS to support exactly this. Illegal immigration throws all of that out the window. Democrats USED to understand that. Hell, I was a Democrat in the mid 90s because it was the party of sanity. Those days are long gone. The Democrats are now more likely to support "open borders." They have abandoned the idea that the government works for us, that the government works to protect the nation-state so that the hard-working CITIZENS within it, by whose consent they are even allowed to govern, are at liberty to pursue their own happiness. It now seems we have to sacrifice some measure of the prosperity of the citizens who live here in order to benefit people who aren't even here! I don't elect representatives to work for people of other nation-states! And where do we stop with that? There are lots and lots of unhappy and poor people in the world, is it somehow the US's responsibility to provide for all of them? Why does New Zealand not bear responsibility, why can New Zealand be highly selective about who gets to enter and stay and benefit from the bounties of New Zealand? Where the hell do you draw the line? I say you draw the line at the BORDER and at PERMISSION. If you don't have PERMISSION you can't cross the BORDER. Why have the Democrats so radically changed? Votes. Power. Just like this video states. It could not be more clear. If you're for open borders you're simply Anti-American. You may be a "humanist" and be "compassionate" and a "bleeding heart" (nobody wants anyone to suffer -- personally nothing would thrill me more than to see Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Venezuela etc. get their acts together and start to create prosperity and liberty for their OWN PEOPLE) but by what you're promoting you are very much against the prosperity and stability of the nation-state of the USA and the people who live here lawfully whether citizens or granted permission to enter and work here and possibly become citizens in time. --------------------------------------------- So what's different about today? In addition to the very different world and very different needs of the nation, several things are different: 1. We already have somewhere in the range of 20,000,000 to 25,000,000 people in this country NOW who came here without our permission, despite our LAWS against that. This is after multiple rounds of amnesty as well. That's quite enough already. As mentioned earlier, this has devastated many areas of the economy. 2. Laborers in eras past who came to America were expected to learn English, to live our shared values, to have an element of shared culture with their fellow new Americans, to embrace the idea, the experiment, of one nation from many different kinds of people -- in short, to thoroughly assimilate. And by and large, THEY DID, and it strengthened the nation for all. Today we have the pernicious concept of multiculturalism, which is the antithesis of this assimilation. Multiculturalism says, among many things, that there's no need for shared values or shared culture -- in fact, to promote these things is fundamentally racist and supremacist. Multiculturalism pushes Identity Politics, which is a fantastic way to DIVIDE rather than UNITE. It is having a catastrophic effect on the culture and discourse in this country, and multiculturalism + outrageous amounts of illegal immigration (or open borders) is a surefire way to destroy a nation-state. (And, sidebar, destroying the nation-state is precisely what many on the far left view as the ideal. They view the US as irredeemably terrible. It has to go. There are MANY ways to destroy a nation-state -- new ways are invented all the time... but there are only a few time-tested methods for successfully keeping a nation-state together, strong, and healthy and its people free and prosperous -- and far leftists are in the business of eradicating those methods). 3. Laborers in eras past had to *WORK THEIR ASSES OFF.* Life was extraordinarily difficult! There was no free lunch and people worked their fingers to the bone to build a life and build a nation. What do we have today? A *truly massive* welfare state. Multi-generational welfare families. Welfare used as a way to enslave and produce indolence and dependence in exchange for votes. A welfare state + open borders is a foul-tasting recipe for disaster. --------------------------------------------- If the Democratic Party continues to self-radicalize and advocate for people other than Americans, to push for open borders, to use wholly disingenuous tactics to discredit efforts to control our horrid and gigantic border porosity, to abandon working people in favor of illegal immigrants and future welfare dependents, I hope it will be a losing strategy for them, because if it isn't a losing strategy for them politically, it is nearly a mathematical certainty that it will be losing strategy for the future of the United States and its citizens.

This is true. I live on the border and you can't even find a decent paying job. Why? Because this people work for for less. I'm a truck driver and this foreigner have been taking over. We should be getting paid at least .50 a mile. This Mexican drivers come and do the job for .38 cpm. So, it's not about them being better workers it's about them doing it cheaper.
@seandunn64176 жыл бұрын
They can charge less because they don't maintain their trucks. Some don't even insure them. Then, when they run all the gringos out of the business, they try to strike to bring the wages back up to where they were before they came here, and the companies tell them to go get stuffed. That's exactly what happened in the 1980s and 1990s in south Florida with the Marielitos.

@eggynack6 жыл бұрын
@@fireengie8488 While more employees in the market reduces demand for employees, immigrants also consume goods, as one does, which increases demand for employees. Moreover, we all benefit from cheap labor, as it means cheaper goods. I think it's useful to consider this in terms of straight up people instead of immigrants and non-immigrants. Would the people in, say, NYC be economically benefited if half the people there were sent away? The answer is a pretty clear no, and I think that fact really illuminates the reason immigrants are beneficial.

When a group of people come in and undercut wages and send most of the money back money is not actually circulated in the local economy. They buy food stuffs and cheap liquor, that's about it. They also tend to trash the houses they rent or rent the meagerest of houses and pack as many people in it. You get the same effect from on the road workers of all ilk but lesser shanty town. You're being disingenuous when you say they buy things. The bottom rung middle class gets less jobs creating more homeless people/on welfare. Same effect with the h1b visa and tech sector. But hey, keep believing illegals working under the table, claiming nothing for taxes, being a burden tax wise and buying cheap food is somehow great for the country.

@A Sojourner and Account one I understand what you mean. However, you want the one that's closet to convert. An Anglo Saxon and Hispanic are pretty identical with western beliefs plus we are both Christians for the most part. It's easier to convert a Hispanic to be more American than a Muslim. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I wouldn't deport all immigrants but I would use the closet one(Hispanic) to go against all the other immigrants because in the real world its good to have allies. Hispanics are the biggest ethnic group in America. They make up about 1/4 of the population with Anglo Saxons being 2/4. Add that together equals 3/4 of the population. With the rest of the 1/4 being black, asian , Muslim , etc. You want friends not enemies to support your cause. I want the remaining 1/4 out as well. Only the 3/4 majority can prosper. but Anglo Saxons cant do it alone. Anglo Saxons and Hispanics need to work together. There is nothing we cant accomplish. And when I am talking about Hispanics Im talking about only Mexicans, Argentinians, cubans, the spaniards if any are living the US permanently. Only them.

Solid video. I've been arguing against such high levels of immigration for years now. There's no question that mass immigration has stagnated (even decreased) wages. Increased the cost of living, housing specifically. And increased education and healthcare costs. There's no doubt about it. Immigration needs to be stopped until Americans start doing well again. The downturn for average Americans directly coincides with the high levels of Immigration that we've had over the past 50 years.
