Back in the late 90s (or was it early 2000s) there was a company call Pure Spin that made wedges that had a compound that included very fine diamond crystals bonded to the face of the wedge. A friend had one, and it DID feel a bit like sandpaper.

Im a bogey golfer (at best) and i spin balls off the green when the conditions are right: a dry sand wedge hitting a dry pro-v into a soft wet green. If the ball or club is wet, it won't spin, if the green is too hard the ball bounces too high and forward or too many bounces, too dry and it looses too much spin on the bounce. A soft damp green will bounce the ball once without removing the spin, it will land and accelerate backwards.

Gluing sand paper to a club and wackin your balls....probably not the best way to achieve jizzing, I recommend using a wood, gets it in the hole every time.

Spinning the ball back on the green does not require a rough club face. Some demo artists can create sufficient back spin with a smooth face club. The lie, and the condition of the green surface contribute a great deal to spinning the ball back. That said, the biggest contributor to spinning the ball back is the golfer's swing, and impact technique. The golfer either has that swing technique, or they don't. Fun video just the same. I actually tried this years ago. Only difference was I used non skid/slip tape. The stuff you would use to protect against slipping on steps, and such. It also comes with an adhesive on the back side like tape. When done, I just peeled it off the club face. Easy clean up.

Liam after stuggling the past few weeks and really starting to dread even playing golf i went out today shot 7 over 88. 38 points though not spectactular golf off 10 ill take it. We done this for years on cheap 60 degree wedges. 600 grit paper will make hard golf balls dance all over the green. We do it when just playing quick rounds (hubby and I). When you do it use cheap hard pinnical balls... It's pointless to destroy your "real" play (we play ProV1 and they cost way to much to destroy lol. Hubby is a par player from the pro Tee, im a low 80s player from the pro tee and high 70s from women's tee). The sand paper will make the ball jump all over and you really have to be careful of ball placement on 50 to 60 yard shots as backing it off the green will happen.

I will say this of full swing shots it will doesnt bite nearly as hard and will not bite that good... Sharping your groves on our wedges makes for much more bite on full swing wedge shots. Where it really REALLY bites is on chip shots and on half swing 50 to 60 yard shots.

Years ago I bought a wedge called the Shredder. It has ridges not grooves. It shreds the ball with a full swing and will zip off the green. Even chip shots will stop dead. Lotta fun but illegal as can be.

I've got an old 60* wedge that has a special face just for spinning it back. It's illegal in tourney play but it's fun to play around with the mates. Has a rough surface that creates tremendous backspin. Sure is fun to watch.
