In a way u r correct, Hinduism is a godless culture. Idol is a symbolic representation of a purpose and every temple is constructed for a specific purpose.

There is a lot of science and technology involved behind construction of every ancient temple, ancient temples are built at an specific places, they didn't built the temples just here and there. Imagine your daily job is to remove screws with your nails, after a few years I will give a screw driver and that makes your life so easier, wouldn't you worship that screw driver. Ancient Temples were built at a geographically specific and geometrically calculated places to make the humans life a lot easier. The idol and temple were also called as yantra and there was a specific tantra for every temple. Yantra means hardware tantra means software, now the problem is software is missing. Invaders intentionally destroyed the software. Bhakti and pooja is a very simple software and works for people . How it works is, if u go to a temple the priest there, will ask you to do sankalpa before starting any pooja, that means u r asked to make up your mind very strong for a purpose, and that stimulates your subconscious mind towards that purpose, that's how it works. Lots of information is missing about our ancient temples.
