On of the best presentation of Alton Illinois. I've been researching Alton as a place to retire after working 50 years. A place to have a simple life. Thank you for this podcast it gives so much more information that others don't post. Joel

A wonderful video, thank you very much. I would like to make a correction and add a few things. There are other 'piasa bird' legends, the most prominent in China where it was called "Peng-ju" and said to have been carnivorous, had a near human face with the beard of a tiger, scaled body the size of a colt, sharp talons and a serpentine tail. It lived along the Yellow River, and was said to have killed in much the same way as the Piasa. The story concludes with its demise in a manner nearly identical to that of the Piasa. The painting is also in error as the scaled body is supposed to be green. My mom's dad's family was instrumental in donating the ground for the Confederate Cemetery (all family were on the winning side). Robert Wdlow's chair is at Franklin Masonic temple where he was a member. You also did not travel W 7th St. (steepest bricked st. in the world), nor our other hometown boy jazz great Miles Davis. But again, thank you, excellent work.

Alton is very unique. It was once a great place. I lived on Liberty St and our congressman lived a few doors down. The Haskell house should have been included in this. Alton, however, now is not the same
@Earle96 Жыл бұрын
Funny, I used to live on E 20th few streets down. I’m surprised he didn’t mention the Haskell mansion and the doll house as well.

One night years ago I flew to St Louis from Cali arrived abt midnight & got a cab to Alton hotel. At about 2 am i was walking to my room when 3 persons vacated the bar and joined my walk! The one young lady nearly hit me with a swinging Purse for no reason? She was a good looker, but a rather mean cowgirl? Maybe her cowboy took his other dance partner that night? What would Samuel Clemons have done?Glad she wasn't packing heat! Hello Cowgirl in the sand..! 🎯

weird that people want to forget a monument to a literal anti-American government that thrived on the enslavement of other human beings?

The "bird" is actually a dragon. The Chinese painted them when they circumnavigated the globe 100 of years before Christopher Columbus there are eight of these birds in existence around the globe.. the Chinese painted them on internal riverways for luck

@@DzheiSilis . Before then. Before the Vikings came to America's. There is a cave in southern Illinois that was found in the early 1800s that had e Ancient Chinese and ancient Egyptian artifacts. There you go you have just been educated... there are multiple paintings of dragons around the globe on tributary Rivers. . The early American Indians did not originally paint that
