I was just there last month. Disagree with your assessment about how bad you made it out to be. It has it’s bad areas like every city does, but there are much worse looking cities. Most of the places you’ve been driving through actually don’t look all that bad, just older. We stayed at a wonderful boutique hotel downtown. The restaurant there was great as well. Didn’t look rundown from the view from the hotel. My battery and alternator died while having breakfast right before we left town. We had so many customers and staff volunteering to help us. I will never forget it. I have doubts I would have have gotten that much help back home. I’m absolutely certain we would not have gotten it in Ohio, where we recently moved from. (Just think Appalachia...clans, uncivilized, and lazy people.....I grew up there, so I know) The people of the Quad Cities get a huge thumbs up from me.

Fun fact: Avenue of the Cities used to be called 23rd ave. Whitey's, Clint's Pizza, Harris Pizza, Happy Joes, Adolf's Tacos, Rudy's Tacos, all hot spots. Most people live near Avenue of the Cities or John Deere Road. Downtown is abandoned because it is too risky to live near the river. The flood of 1993 was catastrophic! When we went to the show he instantly stopped what he was doing and came up to us and invited us to sit down. He told me to come over just off stage and sit since I was a drummer. A few minutes later Pearl Bailey came and sat with my parents and they were completely floored. They sat chit chatting all evening while the music played. We kept in touch over the years after. I definitely think you showed only the bad in Rock Island and none of the good. Rock Island has Augustana College, 4th best private college outside Chicago and the state uni system), Trinity Rock Island (saved Prince’s life in 5 days before he died) . The population declines can’t be blamed only in taxation because Illinois provides tax benefits that Iowa doesn’t and home values reflect the property tax differences anyway. The “up on the hill” neighborhoods around Augustana, Longview Park, Saukie Golf Course and Blackhawk Court are actually quite beautiful and great places to live. The whole Quad City area has been hurt by NAFTA, anti-union policies and globalisation. Whatever savings people might get in property taxes will get countered by higher property values because the taxes are lower. The assumptions that made Illinois a manufacturing powerhouse are gone. Lowering tax rates won’t change that. My advice to the Quad Cities would be to merge all RI/Moline/EM/Milan/Silvia/Carbon Cliff into one city, with one police force, one fire department, one city hall administration. It would become the the largest city of Illinois and would become more competitive. The cities all compete against each other for investment. Together they would yield more power at both the state and federal levels.

You can check if they voted for or against the people of your City or town.. also the answer should be NO to bringing in a casino to your town, they do nothing for the locals!
@BoratWanksta3 жыл бұрын
It seems like there are SO MANY examples of declining cities and towns, that attracted a casino(or more) in a desperate hope to get their economy rolling again. I.e. Atlantic City, NJ starting in the 1970s, to more recently talk about Danville, IL trying to get a new casino to open in their city. And over in Virginia(which very recently legalized casinos), Danville, VA is also trying to get a casino built. Of course not all places with casinos, are super depressed. But it does seem more and more, that the amount of physical casinos in some areas is almost getting too saturated with so many around. I do wonder if that's why at least one or 2 casinos in Tunica, MS closed a few years back?

Your videos confirm what I’ve noticed when I’ve driven in the Midwest and East. The towns and cities in the Eastern Time Zone generally have traffic lights hanging from thick cables over the intersection while in the Central Time Zone generally traffic lights are placed on steel beams over intersections. As with anything, I’ve seen exceptions.
@BoratWanksta3 жыл бұрын
The traffic lights that have a single black horizontal wire over all the lights to hold them up, are called span wire lights. Thanks to someone on facebook, for mentioning to me what that type of traffic light is called. And yes in some states those type of traffic lights are more common, i.e. Indiana(though I've seen a handful of exceptions that opted for metal horizontal pole traffic lights, i.e. Indianapolis and South Bend), Ohio, and Florida to name a few examples. I think sometimes in bigger cities of those mentioned states, that they'll opt for newer style traffic lights with metal horizontal pole traffic lights, instead of span wire. I know in the city of Chicago the only time I'd ever seen a temporary span wire traffic light, was when a traffic light was in the process of being replaced. An example was when a few years ago, the city was replacing one of the traffic lights on LaSalle Drive slightly west of Lake Shore Drive.
@garykaplan77283 жыл бұрын
@@BoratWanksta Thanks for the information. I didn’t know they were called span wire lights. Here in Minnesota we have the horizontal pole traffic lights and like what you have observed in Chicago, when there is road construction temporary span wire traffic lights may be used temporarily. There are a couple of MN small towns I’ve seen that have permanent span wire lights, but those are very rare exceptions. When I drive out East to visit my relatives, I see more span wire lights with the exceptions like you pointed out that exist in Florida.

You can get offended, or you can take the rational approach and realize that the Illinois side of the Quad cities is continuing to lose population, while the Iowa side is continuing to gain population. Also, some people were offended by my Davenport video as well, saying that I had a narrative to show the negative and not the positive. All of these assumptions are hilarious to me. Point is, you must be from Moline or Rock Island, which is why you're taking it personal.

I would recommend the Iowa side of the Quad Cities. Le Claire is a nice elevated river town so you don’t have to worry about flooding and it’s close to everything. Iowa is so much cheaper it’s actually ridiculous. I’ll use cigarettes as an example because I have to get them for my grandmother. In Clinton Iowa a carton is $70. Where I live in Illinois less than 5 minutes away, a carton is $110 and it’s not just cigarettes that are more expensive here. There’s beautiful countryside in Iowa with rolling hills and fields. Davenport and Bettendorf feel like thriving bigger cities whereas moline seems like it’s slowly dying. I prefer Moline only because my grandparents lived there for years and I’m from a small town so it’s less stressful to be there. I dated a girl years ago and she describe the Quad Cities perfectly. She said the Illinois side, particularly Moline has a very content feeling, the people there just want to go through the day to get back home and don’t want the stress of change. The Iowa side seems to want more, they want better, work isn’t their life. Either way it’s a good place to live. If you do move here good luck to you. Although I’ve heard Arizona is one of the greatest places to live
