The voice in many of your pieces is your own or not? The reader has a very powerful voice and is great at voice over work, or if he is not doing it, he should....or if it is indeed you, you should. If I had to guess, you are a talented producer and artist, and I would be curious and excited to know anything else artistic you are involved in creating.

To me it feels of vigour and less of hopelessness. The moon is older than any of us looking up at it, yet it dashes through still like racing howling wolves. Most of us have lost the strength and hope of youth. Youth is gone, never to return again. But the moon, and others out there, still dash bright with undiminished vigour of youth, no matter the age.

@gentlemantramp75285 жыл бұрын
I have often felt that way and, I’m sorry to say, the feeling only grows with the accelerating passage of time. Now, working with Alzheimer's patients, I’ve learned to appreciate how young I still am-and that the key to staying young is brain health! So my advice, for you and I, is this, 1.) Take sleep hygiene seriously. Quality sleep is when the brain washes out synaptic plaque with a pulsation of spinal fluid. When we don’t get enough quality sleep we are gunking up the works. 2.) Never stop learning and challenging your brain. Sooner or later, plaque buildup will block some synaptic connections to some degree, so the more connections we have the more alternatives to dementia remain open to the end. Perhaps the best way of doing this is to learn a new language: the number of bilingual speakers with Alzheimer's are almost none. 3.) Don’t neglect to savor what “strength and pain” is still afforded us. In the words of Viktor Frankl, _Don't aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run-in the long-run, I say!-success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it._

@@gentlemantramp7528 wow, that is a post like no other. But you are right. We must look after ourselves, and we must savor the moment and the journey. Awareness should not be a curse, but a blessing. We should use this positively. And thank you for the reply!

Groping back to bed after a piss I part thick curtains, and am startled by The rapid clouds, the moon’s cleanliness. Four o’clock: wedge-shadowed gardens lie Under a cavernous, a wind-picked sky. There’s something laughable about this, The way the moon dashes through clouds that blow Loosely as cannon-smoke to stand apart (Stone-coloured light sharpening the roofs below) High and preposterous and separate- Lozenge of love! Medallion of art! O wolves of memory! Immensements! No, One shivers slightly, looking up there. The hardness and the brightness and the plain Far-reaching singleness of that wide stare Is a reminder of the strength and pain Of being young; that it can’t come again, But is for others undiminished somewhere.

I watched it right away, as soon as I get off work and I fell asleep midway because the music is truly soothing lol I rewatch and I notice that the music is bit louder than the poem, than the usual? Maybe it's just my ears and my headphones. I woke up at 2 am, due to the unintentional nap and I have to use headphones to listen or else I would wake everyone. Ok, I really like the scene shifting, I don't know if you did it on purpose or not but some lines like really matches the scene. Like, when it was said "wolf" (or lion? geez my 2 am brain couldn't catch up), it showed the clip of a yawning cat. And some others, that I remember seeing but can't remember what they are (again, 2 am brain). Since you ask about interpretation, I personally, think that this poem is just like a midnight thought. When you cannot sleep and your mind suddenly wandering off to slightly dark place? That's how this poem feels to me. About thoughts that won't visit you but in the blackest night.

As much as this is really cool and well-edited etc. there's something a bit off about it. Rolled cigarettes and tabby cats aren't terribly Larkinesque - he was a sad old bastard with a sort of self-mocking obsession with mortality
@illneas5 жыл бұрын
It wasn't my intention to present a realistic example of his life. I wanted to say my story around his poem.
@johnsrome84594 жыл бұрын
Emmet Moore: To try & recreate a more biographical image of Larkin in this project (which is clearly not the artist's intention) would require a doleful series of shots, capturing Larkin methodically reordering books on the shelves at Hull University Library, in his capacity as Head Librarian. You could spice it up with trips to London to feed his insatiable desire for pornography in specialist shops, catering to his particular tastes. I don't care. It was his business and yes, even, when he attempted relationships, he remained a bit of a sad old bastard. With all due respect, I can see why illneas' project might clash with one's preconceptions (particularly if, like me, you were brought up reading Larkin in British schools) but illneas looks at the poetry and what it evokes in his strange imagination, without giving a damn about received wisdoms or more predictable imagery. Just doesn't give a shit! The results are quite distinct from any other VisualArtist I know. Good or bad? It's entirely up to you, my friend. Best wishes to you.
@Emmet_Moore4 жыл бұрын
I didn't mean to suggest that I didn't like this or that I thought it was bad. Quite the reverse. I thought this was a really creative and personal response to the poetry, and I commend illneas for his skill with the camera. Nor was I trying to suggest it should be a more biographical rendering. All I meant was that the aesthetic illneas pairs the poetry with is almost grungy, and my in my opinion Larkin's brilliance lies in his balancing of his wry self-flagellation with an aesthetic much bleaker than the quasi-glamour of grunge - yes, essentially the bleakness of Hull in the 1950s during the golden age of advertisement. And it's funny you should say about British schools. I'm actually in upper sixth currently and did an exam on Larkin (paired with Carol Ann Duffy, who I'm not a fan of) last year. To be honest I was unsatisfied with the way my teacher presented Larkin, so this is pretty much my problem.
