This is a great album. They're ALL good to great if you see Jimmy McCarty printed on the cover or in the notes somewhere. It's a sign you can trust - not unlike GH, UL but it's different. Anyone who can give away a Bandin name/persona & even help sell it to the fan base; you won't be seeing that very much in the present day or the Future. SPIRIT was the only other example of such an adaptive strength & it worked out fine for the goal of keeping the name alive & well through the next ideation & coming back full circle again.

I don't think "Illusion '77" (we'll call it that to distinguish it from the "Past Orbits Of Dust" Illusion-album) is a satisfactory album. So much of it strikes me as dull (Louis' Theme) - and/or badly written especially in the lyric department (Across The Sea / Man Of Miracles / Never Be The Same - one of those songs, I forget which, has an uncorrected mistake). But it has one nice guilty-pleasure (Madonna Blue, which sounds like the song REO-Speedwagon and Chicago were both spending too much time trying to write in the early '80s), and two genuinely good songs - Cruising Nowhere and this one. And what makes The Revolutionary stand out? Partly the theme, partly that "incoherent" chorus ("for sale", or "for shame", or [human nature stays] "the same" - probably all of them). And partly that maddeningly memorable `bum-bum' vocal hook. But mainly... the mystery of what happened to Jim McCarty? It sounds like Dave Cousins has invaded the studio and seized the microphone!
