Your portfolio is art! I can see your efforts in the pages Hang in there and work your best! I will cheer you on! x Also, could you tell us how do you get yourself to make your personal projects like at 3:04 and what do you do about them? Do you get the inspiration by looking around the internet?

Hey!! It would be a huge help if you could upload your apply-to portfolio (and also maybe sketchbook)! I will graduate next year and I want to apply to Falmouth Illustration ba and I honestly don't know what should I put on display hehe 😅 Your illustrations are superb by the way!! I really love your style :)

Thank you so much! That's so lovely to hear, I would recommend Falmouth so much as it's an incredible course, and such a lovely town to spend three years in :) I will make a video showing my original portfolio, it's very different, and a sketchbook flip through too!

Hey! I’m in my first year of illustration at uni.. I still feel like I’m struggling to find my style let alone produce bucket loads of work like yourself, any tips? ☺️
@SophieMelissa5 жыл бұрын
Honestly any illustrations from this portfolio that was done at uni were all done in my third year! It's still a progression now but even more so at uni, my main tip would be to not stress at this stage. I spent first and second year experimenting and finding how I like to work. I did everything from gouache, watercolours, ink drawing and eventually found how I like to work :) Uni is for experimenting and if you had your perfect way of working already in first year it would be a waste! Try to enjoy it, make use of all the facilities and try everything out ! I'm going to make a video showing some first year work as mine was really awful but a lot of fun experiments :)

Really enjoyed seeing your portfolio. Do you find you get more clients when they see your work in person, and do you still email looking for work? So far I only email, been a while since I’ve lugged a portfolio around.

Emma Carpenter Thank you, I'm so glad! I really do, I find I have a lot more success from meeting people in person and tend to build better relationships with the art directors that way too, as they tend to remember me more :) I just brave it and use directories to ring their offices if emails don't work and ask if they could spare 10 minutes, most people are really willing. Also try to search for portfolio reviews near you as there is sometimes events specifically for illustrators!

How many portfolios do you have total? I feel like I should have much more than what I have of my designs
@SophieMelissa5 жыл бұрын
Just this one! and I update the pages and add new work as I go :) and I also change it up depending on who I’m showing it to, so if I’m seeing an editorial art director I will fill it with editorials etc, it’s good to only have work you’re really happy with in there

Hiya! Im thinking about studying at falmouth in september, would you recommend the course? Im really interested in advertisement and editorial illustration. I love your work!!
@SophieMelissa6 жыл бұрын
Chloe Rolfe I would really recommend it! I absolutely loved it (actually back in Falmouth for New Years as I type!) the course and tutors are amazing, you learn so much and there’s a heavy influence on developing skills, since leaving uni 90% of my illustration work has been editorial and I wouldn’t have gotten any of that if it wasn’t for my course :) thank you so much!

Sophie Melissa ahh thank you! I went for an open day there and it looked amazing and the tutor seemed really friendly. Did you stay at Glasney for first year? I really want to stay in halls for first year to get the uni experience but I’m worried about being the only student from the falmouth campus??
