About ILMATAR - I tried to make a song without any guitar, piano, drums or some computer plugins. Just by using a variety of awkward, archaic and time-forgotten ethnic instruments, which are no longer popular. That was the goal. And for me, who grew up on the sound of electric guitars and synths, it was a challenge :) How did it end up, see for yourself. :)
Used instruments: jouhikko (bowed lyre / tagelharpa), hurdy gurdy (niněra), irish lyre harp, irish bouzouki, low whistle, tin whistle, tibetan singing bowl, peruvian maracas, kalimba, jews harp (brumle).
...and Ilmatar was a virgin spirit of the air in the Finnish national epic Kalevala :)

There’s a weird amount of hate about the length of the song/how “slow” it is, but this is exactly how songs like this are. We’re used to basic pop and modern music that’s “verse-rises-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus.” This dude is on point for the type of music. And even if he wasn’t, it’s still amazing.

The era is often referred to as the dark age. However, the music was played at jolly gatherings and festivities, and obviously, it has survived until today. Paradoxically, this is a modern composition.

This is absolutely magical. I am a senior citizen who just had a bad fall last night. Sitting here at 6 a.m. wondering what parts of myself i can move without too much ouch. And this music transported me out of all that ! Well done, well done! It has the energy of Life and Courage in it, it calls out and says life is an adventure and a mystery. There is a great fullness in the instruments combined. It is just wonderful, and just what i needed to have a smile and face the day as a Quest to be continued. Thank You!
