Ilmenau, Thuringia, Germany - 20th November, 2011

Ilmenau is a town located in the district of Ilm-Kreis, Thuringia, Germany. Ilmenau is situated in the valley of the Ilm River, at an altitude of 431 metres (1,415 feet) above sea level, and is the biggest town in Ilm-Kreis district, with 6,200 students studying at the Technische Universität Ilmenau. The surrounding area is marked by the Thuringian Forest and its mountains. The highest mountain of Ilmenau is the Kickelhahn (German for rooster, which is also found in the coat of arms of Ilmenau), with a height of 861 metres. The highest mountains of the Thuringian forest are the Schneekopf (meaning snow-head) with a height of 978 metres and the Großer Beerberg (982.9 meters), a few kilometres to the south-west of Ilmenau. Goethe also enjoyed staying in Ilmenau, mostly on holiday.

Hey, you forgot the Kaufland, the Eishalle, BD club and BH club :) Thank you very much for sharing this video. Ilmenau is such a magical place and I definetly must go back there. I don't know what happened to me while I was in this city but I felt captured in a tale story in wich I never wanted to go off. Thousand of "(y)likes" for this place and this video!! Extraño los fines de semana en los clubes de estudiantes, el C, B, A, mucho disco. También trabajé en mi tiempo libre en el combinado del cristal y la empresa de Porcelana. Mis prácticas de mecánica las hice en los talleres de reparaciones de autos de Ilmenau, éramos 5 cubanos y nos fue muy útil lo aprendido.

Excuse me, may you tell me, what is the airport of ilmenau? How can I flight from asean country to this city? 'cuz I have checked all of airline already, but I haven't seen ilmenau. So do you have any suggestions about the flight? Thanks

i read in their website that you should land in one of their big international airport and that of Leipzig is said to be the closest to Ilmenau then you take a train or a long-distance bus to arrive to this city

Kimheng tan DreamCatcher Dz I visit Ilmenau every year. In order to get there you need to fly to either Leipzig, Berlin or Frankfurt. From each of those cities you can get a train to Erfurt. From Erfurt it is a 1 hour journey on the local train to Leipzig. My preferred airport for getting to Erfurt is Frankfurt, as there is a long distance railway station right at the airport, the trains from there to Erfurt take around 2 1/2 hours.
