It's not just Tonsawang and sangirise. All of the North Sulawesi languages are classified under the Philippines language branch from Gorontalo, bolaang mongondow, Minahasa and the sangihe languages 🙂

manadonese here. i think it's because people here often talk very loudly and use harsh slang and insults. so when we hear the creole being spoken we automatically associate it with people calling each other pigs, yelling because there's speakers blasting tiktok dj music at 11pm. As someone with a Minahasan mother and having spent my early childhood in North Sulawesi, hearing this sounds odd and funny. Haha. Another thing I didn't know is that Manadonese (Bahasa Manado) is considered a Malay/Indonesian creole. I always thought of it just as a dialect or even accents. By the way, thank you, Andy! There's probably some politics involved with these sort of things. But if you look at it objectively. There are all dialects of Malay, even Indonesian (its literally a renamed version of a Malay dialect). Or at least varients of Malay.

it's not Minahasan. Minahasan is completely a different language and even has some dialects (tombulu, tondano, tonsea, and totembuan dialects). You can watch the differences in other videos on this channel.

@@twintesayeah that's true Prior to the dutch mission in Minahasa, the natives that spoke malay were mostly the ones that lived near the coast or just the ones that were usually conducting trades. The further spread of malay into the natives were due to the dutch goverment and its Christian mission because it was much more intelligible, although there were some missionaries that took it upon themselves to speak in the native Languages and taught with it but this soon would be overturned by the use of Malay in church songs and liturgy and eventually for the goverment
