Hi Jerry this is Lou Thiry. My wife and I are three years into RVing. We’re not full-time. But I am a blind person. My wife drives a truck and I said it up. Also do all the repair. Figure that out. No problem. I love your videos because their help me so much because the explanation is so thorough I do not have to see the video to understand what you are talking about. So thank you so very much. I have followed you guys for quite a while. Love y’all

Timing is everything. Just bought the same unit yesterday and was getting ready to install it when your video popped up.

Hi. Jerry one thing you didn't mention is do I have to unplug from shore power and/or disconnect batteries? I live in motorhome full time and its beeping and due for replacement. Love your videos sir
@iLoveRVlife2 жыл бұрын
Neither of those are needed. You can pull the fuse that powers the detector. Thanks for watching.

@@iLoveRVlifeI'm in the same situation and I don't mean to sound stupid but where would I start looking for the fuse?

Very good informative video for a simple (but important) job. I use a label maker and put the date next to the detector(s) indicating the date they were replaced or when the battery was last changed. Have you ever practiced using the emergency exit with the lights off?
@iLoveRVlife3 жыл бұрын
Great tip. I haven’t tossed Joan out of the window yet. We have a large exit bedroom window. Wouldn’t hurt to pop it on cold winter night.

Jerry or anyone have a suggestion for a carbon monoxide detector ? Thanks.

I used on of the units from Lowe’s.

Do you have to pull a fuse or flip a breaker before clipping wires?
@iLoveRVlife Жыл бұрын
It’s a good practice to do so.

Darn! Your original is identical to mine. I’m going to follow your lead on this one because I cannot find one that will fit AT ALL.

Hi, does this detector ever randomly go off , yet there is not a propane leak?
@iLoveRVlife4 ай бұрын
On rare occasions. They have around a 5 year life and should be replaced before then. The one in our Montana was 3 years old and going off once a week. Replaced in May and haven’t had any more random alerts.

My 2014 solitudes just went out also and I had to do the same. I was able though to find the exact replacement but it was just under $100.
@iLoveRVlife3 жыл бұрын
Seems like every time something breaks, the replacement is a little different. Good to hear you were on the positive side this time.

My camper is a 2015; bought it last September from someone. We were told this particular "thing" was a carbon monoxide detector. I was cooking breakfast thus morning and it went off; scared me silly. I opened the door and turned my hood fan on. I was told as long as the fan or AC was on I didn't need to open a door or window. After you-tubing, I now realize this is the propane detector and has never gone off before. I think it went off this morning because I had tried to light a second burner but it wouldn't light then I forgot to turn the burner knob back off and ibwent right on cooking on the other burner. I have also realized since then that I could have blown up the camper with us in it. I sure do thank my Good Lord above that he spared us. Where do I try to buy one of these detectors?
@iLoveRVlife3 ай бұрын
So glad it did the job. You can purchase off Amazon. They all work the same, just find one that is similar size to your current detector.

Did you turn power off before cutting? How is it powered? The trailer battery?
@iLoveRVlife2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t. It’s 12 Volts DC powered by house batteries. No shock issues.

Just a heads up. Red top mountain state park in GA. Is doing a lot of changes this year. New 40 foot pull through sites. Cutting timber and welding the roads in the park. It is going to be nice when completed. But is a mess right now.
@iLoveRVlife3 жыл бұрын
That’s a nice area. That will be a nice change.

After some research, I'd advise checking the ppm sensitivity > most of these (U.L. listed) allow too much toxic fumes to accumulate before "alerting"...just sayin'!

Why do they make the neutral black? Everything else has a white neutral wire. I couldn’t figure out how to wire this thing. Previous owners stuck both wires together and attached it to a black wire. Ugh.
@iLoveRVlife2 жыл бұрын
On a DC circuit, black is usually ground. Neutral is found on AC.

Ours is in a location that things could block it. I always tell guests please do not place anything in front of this area.

Fortunately we have a little overhand on the counter top. Hope this keeps our from becoming an extra point through the goal posts.
