If you’ve maintained your car well it’s probably better to repair the motor. You never know what you’re getting with a used engine.
@jgonzalesm65 жыл бұрын
Certain years of the M272(V6) & M273(V8) had the inferior balance shaft sprocket. MB got sued for this. First, you must get the VMI(vehicle motor inquiry) from the dealership...this is free and should'nt give you any issues. On the VMI sheet is the engine #. If your engine # is above or higher than the engine #'s with the faulty balance shaft sprocket, then you're good and have the updated balance shaft sprocket. Otherwise, you're going to have expensive issues down the road with faulty engine codes first, then IF not fixed, the engine gets rough and after 20k miles of NOT fixing it, you run the risk of the teeth jumping, valves bent, and a complete engine rebuild....around $15k. LINK BELOW ON ENGINE #'S.
joe r gonzales are you saying that there Is a way to get this repaired by Mercedes dealer?
@craigkeller4 жыл бұрын
With all the MB engineering that’s been invested they couldn’t make it far more complicated? Shame.

customers should not pay to fix Daimer mistakes. when we pay 100.000 euros for a car, we expect the best or nothing and this is not correct. i had similar problem on my 2006 SL 350.

Piece of sh!ttt design and MB won't take responsibility for any of it. This is NOT the only known defects. Intake manifold runner controller (using Cheap plastic instead of metal), conductor's plate (cheap plastic break), balance shaft (not heat treated correctly), Secondary intake pump and relay will break every 2 years (draw too much power for the relay to handle)! Rusted Rear subframe! that's all the problem I experience so far.

This video shows how utterly easy all of this is. I'll bet the people who dictate the ASRA labor times for this procedure are watching this video and saying to themselves, "Yea, the repair for this should only take an hour and a half or so! Look how easy this all is to take apart!" and us MB technicians take a hit in our pay. I hate engineers, who've never held a wrench a day in their life, tell us how long it takes to do our jobs. And they say things like "It worked when we simulated it in CAD!"

This video is for teaching brain dead idiots. Also for people that cannot visual work involved! It has absolutely nothing to do with engineer's!

To get a full experience of the engine assembly down to the basic. In the end, to replace a low cost part. The labor is the killer. Funny how this hard to get to part requires so much disassemble and damages/contaminated to associated parts.

03:22? Why would you have to replace the entire cylinder head just because you damage the valve cover?
@nelias73069 жыл бұрын
This is because the valve covers have the upper cam bearing journals built right into them so they are part of the camshaft. They cannot be mixed and matched or seizing and galling may occur
@nelias73069 жыл бұрын
So in a nutshell the cam bearing caps and valve cover are one piece

Anyone know how the timing case magically removes itself?
@mortenmorfar Жыл бұрын
With a big hammer, this engine is so stupidly designed, to remove the balance shaft you have to remove the transmission and rear main seal, and to replace the rear main seal, you have to remove the second lower half of the engine, because there are 2 bolts going from there up into the seal, why ?, because Mercedes Benz, everything on that engine is just stupid, to remove one thing you have to remove two other things :/

@maliekmills4573 жыл бұрын
M271 engine is not comparable to the failure of early M272 engines, these two are completely different in terms of their reliability and issues. The M272 balance shaft issue is far more expensive and complicated to rectify. Hence you don't see many of them with mega milage past 100k, at least in the UK anyway. Although enthusiasts slander the M271 engine for having a single row timing chain, few of them do actually go when maintained properly with correct oil, servicing etc... Many have documented exceeding 200k miles with their M271 engine on the original chain. My C180k coupe is on 112k miles and still drives well, haven't encountered any issues with the chain. Other than vacuum leaks from Kompressor hose, I've not encountered any significant engine problems and the car has been in my family since 2008, so the M271 seems pretty solid imo.

@kito1san4 жыл бұрын
@@jason.arthur.taylor nah. There is a link that you can get this info. Decoded from the vin# of your car. Pretty good data base on the vin #. You can then find the engine number and see if your vehicle falls in the issue range.

Shifted cams may indicate a stretched chain, not necessarily a worn sprocket on the balance shaft. Replacing the chain and tensioner may fix it and reduce the wear on the balance shaft sprocket.
