Hey guys! So todays video is a little update on some perfumes I’ve been getting questions about, and just a super honest chill discussion about them. 💗 thank you for being here ❤

I was accumulating fragrances as well and had the same struggle. lol I decided to keep only the ones I really liked and loved no matter how often I were them. Sometimes I just go in and smell my fragrances lol it blesses my senses. Just sharing the truth. O and I am more intentional about what I buy. I stopped going crazy over every fragrance I smell on other people and the opinions about how great a fragrance is. I now take note of them and go from there. You get tired of wasting money you know 🤷🏽♀️

Suggestion: I looked at the perfumes that I absolutely love and researched which perfumer created it. The majority of the perfumes I kept were designed by Dominique Ropion, Sophia Grojsman, Beatrice Piquet, etc. If you have many perfumes that are created by one perfumer, that's the style you gravitate towards. Think of it like home decor. Some people are traditional, others art deco, others are contemporary, etc.

I approach my perfume collection like it's a community of friends, some I spend alot of time with, some I visit occasionally and some I visit on rare special moments. So I have a EXTREMELY hard time getting rid of any of them and regret when I get rid or "declutter". But there have been a few really bad "friends " I no longer associate with.

I feel like paring down fragrances is guilt, you feel like you're over indulging. My position is if you can afford it and you like/love each fragrance you have, there shouldn't be limit. The only time I see paring down a collection is if you literally don't have the space.
@miglekeliotyte90832 жыл бұрын
My number for perfumes is 10. I allow myself to have no more than 10 perfumes, and each of them has a different purpose. I always keep one for home, one for work, one for special occasions, then there's also ones for different seasons or weather. But 10 is enough to cover all of the occasions and I don't feel restricted, actually it feels just right. Also helps with spending as we have a limited budget right now.

Re: finding the right number. I once heard Joshua from The Minimalists say minimalism is about finding the right number for YOU for that category. Specifically to realize your personal range when it's enough to enjoy and not too much to manage and still giving you freedom to live your life. Not just to reach a low number for the sake of having a low number.

I'm not a minimalist, but, heading in that direction. I struggle with things that I think "maybe I will use it SOMEDAY" my kitchen for example. I live alone...just me and my cats. My daughter is in college. And I don't entertain, yet I have a kitchen that could prepare a 7 course meal for 8 people. Im a bartender so I work night, weekends, holidays. If my daughter is here and has friends over, she isn't preparing a big meal. Why do I need four crock pots?? And anything that has sentimental value to me. Yikes I need help

I think if you're not wearing a fragrance as much and you mostly like it for the scent, maybe minis could come in handy. That way you'll. have the scent available and you can wear it if you want to, without having a full bottle taking up a lot of space.

Yes, I do that too. I buy the smallest size possible. Sometimes that is a sample, sometimes 10 ml, 15 ml, or sometimes 30 ml is the smallest size available. But that's the limit, I don't want to buy big bottles I'm never going to go through. Sometimes I make an exception, like with Zara Red Temptation, that one was only available in 90 ml, and I still bought it. It was cheap though.

I think everyone struggles with having a number. I have a small cabinet. So every week I rotate the perfumes in my smaller tray. The ones I debate about, I decant a small amount for myself. I keep the decant. Then sell the larger bottle.
@roni-yah93422 жыл бұрын
I am too busy enjoying my collection to be concerned about the things you worry about or question. Life is too short. I don’t count my perfumes but I know I have over 150 scents. I will say I use decants and purse sprays many times before committing to a full bottle. Then If I buy the fragrance I already had a decant or purse spray to use for touch up during the day.
@reneehernandez41752 жыл бұрын
I can tell you that as a person who has been a lover of perfume for 30 years...I associate perfumes with moments in my life...each perfume represents an evolution of my taste and what was the scent of the moment at a specific time... I have some oldies but goodies that maybe I don't wear them enough to "justify" keeping them but it's so nice to smell them and reminisce and I have never regretted hanging on to them because many of them are discontinued...its very personal..do what feels right for YOU.
@xosherrixo2 жыл бұрын
For me, it's not a number of perfumes, I only keep what can fit in my armoire in an aesthetically pleasing way. Once the cabinet gets full or looks cluttered, I start giving things away.
@julieboley71902 жыл бұрын
My perfume wardrobe reflects my clothes wardrobe. I live in a mostly warm climate, but there are a few weeks a year in the dead of winter when I need to wear a puffy coat. It would be silly of me to declutter my puffy coat in the summer because I haven't worn it in awhile. I feel the same way about my fragrances. Some I wear on a weekly basis year-round, and some I save for certain specific occasions that may only happen a few times a year. I just make sure to keep my collection proportionate as far as being mostly casual and warm weather scents.
@melissatawnie2 жыл бұрын
I agree. As long and you like them and use them keep them. You are minimal in other areas of your life so it balances.
@OceanluvOC2 жыл бұрын
I used to have a lot of perfume and many times the design of the bottle sold me on them. I got rid of all of them kept Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and a niche perfume made by a perfumer in New York who makes small batch’s. Perfume is so expensive so I simply cannot justify buying everyone I like. I live by the coast in California and have a mortgage, car payment, helping my Gen Z daughter with her business and bills. California, especially where I live is extremely expensive so I prioritize where I spend my money. I have a handful of fragrances and wear all of them. I have 7 fragrances right now. I will add a few more. I always get a sample or buy a travel size if available to make sure I really love it before making a full size purchase. That’s just me! Life is too short so my motto is if you really like a fragrance but rarely reach for it then you don’t really like it as much as you think you do. I wear special occasion perfume for no reason because I feel I want to enjoy my fragrance whenever I want not just a special occasion even if it’s pricey.

I feel like I'm at that point where I already know what I want. There's one more perfume that I'll be getting soon but after that I'll be on a no-buy until I finish up at least 3 bottles of perfume.

Enjoyed your video. I don't think about numbers at all with my collection. Everything I brought in, I did so for a reason. I love seeing my choices and enjoy looking at them all. A number I had to stay within would be too limiting for me.
@Kate_dyd2 жыл бұрын
I think of perfume as a form of art collection. I have been too hasty in the past with getting rid of perfumes I wasn't wearing at that particular moment, then months later I missed the fragrance and wished I hadn't gotten rid of it. My taste is always evolving as I experience new fragrances, but I don't think that there is some destination I'm going to reach where my collection is complete and unchanging, because I change a lot. I love my fragrances as pieces of art, and I see no reason to declutter all the time, because fragrances have a long shelf life and I like returning to them after long breaks.
@leilani_8082 жыл бұрын
The only way I’ll let go or return fragrances - 1) lt doesn’t last long on my skin. For example, Vanilla Woods. I freaking loved it but for the price, I would have used that bottle in a month or two. Even when I heavily sprayed , no one could tell I was wearing it unless I hugged or actually went up to them & asked if they could smell it. Price point and longevity needs to make sense. 2)my daughters smelled it and love it. I have five daughters. My oldest doesn’t care for any perfumes but she loved Marc Jacobs - Perfect. Gave her that bottle. My 2nd oldest - like me she loves perfumes. I gave her Versace Bright Crystal, Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy, Victoria Secrets Very Sexy & Euphoria Blossom. She wanted it bc it reminds her of the days when she still lived at home. That’s really the only reason I purchased it - memory scents. And lastly, my baby recently fell in love with Killian’s Love Don’t Be Shy. It’s hers now ♥️

As far as how many perfumes to keep, Inthink it should be whatever brings you joy, if you have a perfume that maybe you don’t wear as much as the others but you still really like that perfume and it still brings you joy in the off chance you do wear it I say keep it. If it doesn’t bring you joy ever I say get rid of it, I don’t think there needs to be a set number that way to much unneeded pressure. But I am not a minimalist so I don’t really have that mindset. As for myself I declutter when I know for sure that perfume is just not for me, looking at, wearing it, etc brings me no joy I declutter it. Great vid!!❤️
@deetsdaily2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a certain number. However, if I ever reach a point where a perfume doesn't bring me joy or it's been a year since I've worn it and it's turning into a chore, I usually give it away to my parents, siblings, friends or a homeless person.

For me it has nothing to do with the amount of perfumes but with the thrill of experiencing them. I have now close to 140 bottles and gifted about 40 to colleagues and an ex. Of those I only regret to have given away two. But for me it’s also a collection aspect. I would never give away one of my Guerlains. It’s my fave perfume house. I enjoy my wall display and the fact that I have so many frags to choose from. It’s about moods, occasions, time of day, season of the year, the purpose and what I want to convey, even what I wear and what makeup I choose. I have even a frag just for the purpose of crying when I am down, because it invokes tears like a sad movie, and one just for evenings with thunderstorms and dark skies. They are not my favorite perfumes, but they function as a certain purpose. But I vowed to myself not to get more perfumes than my shelving unit plus vanity can store, not because I could not find any more beauties, but I don’t want to have to convert my bedroom into a perfume closet.

The vanilla in it with the black pepper and tuberose made it so creamy and the nuttyness of the of the sesesme made me love it. I got a rich gormound vibe from it. It’s a stunning flanker for me.

That is a typical struggle of a minimalist who has some sort of collection. I understand you so much. I had a collection of around 85 bottles. And... my inner Minimalist finally won😊 I cut it out to 15 most lovable frags and 4 hair mists. And I wish I did it earlier. Now I clearly see every single bottle and am obsessed with my new smaller but more thoughtful collection. Just.. so many bottles I once bought without a good thinking! Not gonna make this mistake anymore. I will keep it around 14-15 frags and this will be it🥰 But, you know, I kinda had to check out so many frags to really know what do I enjoy. So, everything is ok.

I only get rid of things I own is I don't like them? Why would I get rid of something I like, which I own and paid for for any other reason. There is no rule what we can own of our own property. We only have one life of so many finite years so if I like something and I own it, paid with money I earned, it's mine to enjoy, whether daily or once a year. Life is far too short to live by rules which don't exist.

For me, it's not about a specific number. It's all about fragrances I can't wait to wear. Fragrances that make me excited to wear them... If I keep passing over a specific perfume for something else, I might as well just get rid of it. I loved Narciso Rodriguez for her EDT but I had it for a whole year and never reached for it once. I was never excited to wear it and felt obligated to put it on just because of how popular and expensive it was. I ended up selling it.. For me and my collection, if I'm not 100% obsessed with it I don't want it.

I stick to a space limit rather than a numbers one. I have a set of small drawers in the bottom of my wardrobe that holds all of my perfume and cosmetics, as well as a tray on my dressing table for my current selections (on rotation) if they're full I can't buy any more. Sometimes it is full of perfume and not much else but at the moment I've got a lot of body and hair products as well so until I finish some stuff and create space, or sell some things off, I won't be getting anything new. The only exception I make is for limited edition or seasonal releases that might not be around for long - I buy them and put them away but don't allow myself to open them until there is space in one of the drawers. I've currently got about 40 bottles and that feels comfortable to me, there aren't many others that I am lusting after at the moment.

Today I watched a bunch of your videos and went showering, came back and 🎉 another video. I had about 90 fragrances in bottles, sold everything and build back till 4 bottles. I allow myself to have about 9 bottles. A gourmand, a citrus, a boozy,... 1 for when it's raining, 1 when I am cooking Indian food (make a mood) 1 after shower etc. I use samples to sniff to satisfy my curiosity. If you like peony, just take 3 extra peony ( for example)

I have always loved the idea of having a signature perfume, a fragrance that my children, family and friends would remember me by. My collection is created for that reason, I have been literally searching for it my whole life.😂😂 For some reason, I have always believed that it has to be a complicated, mature, classic scent, until one day, my colleague from work told me:"You always smell so fresh" and then I realized that perfumes I choose to have in my collection all lean towards this group of fragrances. So, basically, my criteria for keeping a perfume is to literally smell fresh, anything too sweet or strong is handed down to my daughters or friends.

For me, I don’t have a number. Each perfume has to bring something different to the table and I have to enjoy wearing them, even if only twice a year. I shouldn’t have to convince myself to love it. BUT I don’t have a KZbin channel. I guess the same rule applies. If it serves a purpose for your channel, then keep, if it does not, then away it goes. You might want to keep a container especially for those for instruction purposes. That way you don’t see the clutter, but they are available when needed. ❤️🇨🇦

If I haven’t touched it in a year I get rid of it or if I don’t see myself wearing it anymore! I only keep what I know I will wear I have about 50 now I did have about 100 I gave to family and friends 😊

I thought I hated tuberose after buying Do Son. But recently I fell in love with Frederic Malle Carnal Flower.

In my ideal world I’ll have a core set of fragrances that I love and wear often. AND another set of more unusual scents that don’t get worn a lot but there are days that nothing else will do. I need them even though they don’t get worn alot. Those I am leaning toward travel sizes on those less worn. Plus some fragrances are clearly seasonal, so you have to account for long periods of months at a time that you won’t feel like wearing them. Plus add in the changing tastes, it makes it hard to reach that perfect balance in your collection. I think you are letting this bother you more than you need to. Don’t let us make you feel bad about yourself. On another note - I hate tuberose but I’m super intrigued by the l’interdit fragrances.

Bleu turquoise is hard to come by also, I think it’s been discontinued sadly.

Don’t get the Florabotanica hype. I don’t find it very complex and it doesn’t wow me. It’s too sweet, but also too masculine leaning at the same time. Wish it was a bit fresher smelling. Really didn’t feel like me when I wore it, so passed it on.

Sold my Florabotanica, was paranoid about smelling like canabis.

Nice content! I collect fragrances as well and I live in Toronto. I am looking to replace My Way and the two l'interdit in my collection. I had a while back, and I actually liked it on skin. Please let me know if you can send them to me and how you want to proceed ❤️❤️

Ilythia 💕 how about a video on your absolute favorite discontinued scents? If I could only chose one fragrance for the entire rest of my life, it would be Micheal Kors Island Very Bali! That’s saying a lot because I have a collection of 50-60 scents that I have a love for equally, but I will cry the day I can never smell her again! 😭🥺

I have stopped buying perfumes last month. Why? Because I don’t have more space 😅 and because I struggle every single morning deciding what to wear. I fixed that deciding the night before but the space… I need to move to a bigger house first 🤣 btw I love all the perfumes with tuberouse. 🤩

I have a hard time letting go of anything, even though it can be very liberating. After having a blind buy fiasco, I decide to only buy mini bottles or samples of perfumes I didn't know about but have researched online. Then, if I love it, I'd get a bigger bottle. This way I have a larger collection of minis and a manageable collection of bigger perfume bottles.

I think…if I like the smell and perfume is a good performer and I wear it occasionally - it’s a keeper. There are very few nice good performers out there. I don’t waste my time on bad performers even if I like smell or bottle. Performance comes first. To me that’s money well spent 😆.

I feel like I'm the exactly opposite when it comes to the clouds. The original has this sharp and cloying funkiness that I could never get past, and then I would be anosmic to it. With the intense, it just feels a lot better blended and I can actually smell it throughout the day. Though I will say, God is a Woman is still my favorite from Ariana Grande.

I got ysl last month but it's more like a body splash. It doesn't last.i spray it after a shower, if I want it to last I use body butter or oil.

I wear what I want no matter if everyone else hates it I don't care. Fragrance is for me. I would never get rid of something I love because my boyfriend hates it. There are tons of opportunities when we are not together and you don't need to be dressed up to wear a scent. Wear it for you! Life is too short to not enjoy what we love. There are plenty of perfumes my bf doesn't like but sometimes they just need to give it a chance and if they still don't like it, I still don't care! Its not like your boyfriend thinks it smells like sh*t in a toilet bowl, he just doesn't care for the scent.
@spursgirl292 жыл бұрын
Exactly! If my boyfriend doesn’t like it I just won’t wear it when I’m going out with him. It’s not his bottle of perfume, it’s mine. I wear them for myself and no one else. I don’t care if I get compliments. If I do, then great, but I could NEVER let go of a fragrance I love because someone else doesn’t like it.

I agree, I don't enjoy a fragrance as much if my husband hates it. And yes, I wear fragrance for me. But not only for me, I don't want to repulse my husband.

I have cloud and baccarat. They serve different purposes. I wear cloud when I am out and about, especially when I am walking around the beachy areas. Something about it blossoms in the heat! Baccarat on the other hand, I reserve for special settings. Dates, weddings, etc… you know? Thoroughly enjoyed the video as always! 🥰

Hi Ilythia! I have a question… I know you are on the fence for Mon Paris.. and I’ve been eyeing them out for a while but there is a new(?) flanker for the edt? Lumiere? I’m not sure where you’ll go with mon Paris.. if you’d try the new edt lumiere version. (I’m in the mid of the vid while commenting that’s why not sure if you decluttered ysl Mon paris lol)

I would really like to try the new lumiere for sure!! I don’t have high hopes but you never know!

Cloud body spray is still in my possession. It's weak. Really feels like the limited free trial. I thought maybe it could help me to feel extra girly for a summer heatwave but it's just... nothing, too light. And the actual scent is just okay.
