My theory behind this is that its just a metaphor for cooperate entities. 1st ending - They're always 'eating' the needy and those desperate enough to 'sacrifice' themselves for food and other things. They were talking about souls as payment and Tyler was talking about cooperate anyways. 2nd ending - Much like the same thing expect that you 'save' someone from cooperate hell while fighting your way out (like a union). But one much be 'sacrificed' to defeat the bigger enemy. But you can never escape cooperate. Those are my thoughts. Might be wrong.
