Urban Cowgirl - and I especially like how Johnny Olson says a pre-Rednex reference for the second prize in that showcase.

Cedar chests got a lot of mileage on this show back in the day. I always loved for a brief period in the mid-to-late 80s they had a hope chest - with "Hope" literally written on it! (thanks to Pluto TV)

They always use the losing fanfare in Hit Me whenever it's lost. Now you know why they call it "Hit Me" because it seems like you literally feel like hitting people just because that tune doesn't sound happy (like that opening sequence on Desperate Housewives where a lady sheds a tear and then punches the husband in the face). So emotional, baby! (just can't hit people in real life growing up, though, especially on a game show or anywhere in public)

I love, and grew up, with Bob Barker's TPIR, and I categorically refuse to watch the new iteration, but sometimes, the things Bob Barker says, just wouldn't fly today. No judgment, per se, so save your response. Just an astute observation. Doesn't really bother me, necessarily , what he said, but the "just got off the boat", was an eye raising remark, and incessantly badgering a contestant about whether or not she had American citizenship was cringe, and his ways of calling ADULT women " little girls" , was uh, interesting. Those were the (old) days......! 🥴

Barker was a known racist among TPiR crew & staff so his comments are not surprising.

I agrée with you 100%. I watch where he puts his left arm and hand when the contestant is at the wheel. He was sued many times for sexual harassment, including Holly. He was a great host though, much better than Drew Carrey.

On the shell game, Bob always puts his left hand on the winning shell before he moves it. That way he knows where the winning shell ends up. The cameramen and buzzer people watches that.

Okay, I have seen this in enough videos to be convinced of this. In frame 0:29, a woman is sitting in the front row, looking at the camera. She is placed in that very seat for many episodes between 1981-1984 or 1985 for this opening pan of the audience. Does anyone know who she is? Is she related to a member of the crew?
