It would be Art Adams. I think the guys easily one of the best dudes to come out of the 80s with a style that has so many influences that he's got this totally recognisable style that... Wasn't even remotely inhouse Marvel style. Dudes only gotten even BETTER as the years have went on. He does have the whole thing of "You LET him just get on with it because he takes his damned time" and I wouldn't have it any other way because he's easily one of the best comic artists we have. That being said, no Michael Golden, Walt Simonson or Terry Austin then you DON'T get Art Adams. They are so deeply entrenched in Adams' DNA.

Running across these as a kid years after the fact in the '90s felt like visiting a whole other world. Love his character iterations. the image style was the Art Adams style. Him not being a part of Image felt weird at the time and then Dark Horse rounded him up as part of the Legend imprint.

Oh, man, I just realized partway through this video that I actually have this stuff in a trade paperback I got from a friend by trading him my Death of Superman issues back in the 90s! Those Supermans are probably "worth more" in dollar terms, but I definitely walked away with the better art (and story, ha ha). I'm not a huge X-Men collector, so I am surprised and super glad that I actually have this stuff!!! Especially since I love Monkeyman and O'Brien, etc. etc. from the 90s. (I'm going to go back and reread that X-Men trade with a fresh eye right now!!! Thanks for the reading inspiration!!!)

Weird coincidence, I just started the new mutants omnibus vol 2 and read this issue yesterday. It's over sized and the coloring is much better. Adams art is amazing. I had his wolverine poster in my room as a kid.

As a kid, my greatest mission was to hunt down every Art Adams X Men annual... They were like holy relics. Still are. I've gotten rid of most of my collection over the years, but I'll never part with my Art Adams annuals. Never! (Proceeds to look crazy while running into the sunset....)
