Image Quality, Or Quality Image?

What is more important to have the highest image quality and a poor subject and composition. or a fantastic subject and composition, taken using a lower end camera.
I am a strong believer that kit is the smallest part of photography and that you can still take fantastic images with entry level equipment. my experience tells me that there is so little difference in image quality between entry level and flagship cameras that its not worth worrying about.
That's not to say that flagship cameras are not worth the money. They absolutely are but what you are paying for are tools and features within flagship cameras that make a professional photographers work life easier.
Thankyou for watching.

Great video, fully agree. Love the part where you explain, what can be improved in the image and yourself acting inside the image, very original!

This is the youtube search phrase I entered: "is photography quality subjective or objective?" and yours is the video I was served. Thank you for the thoughtful essay. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. I have three cameras ranging from 12 years old to last years flagship model and I can't really tell their differences without digging down deep into them. And I wonder if, just as it is for my life as a hobbyist musician where people think mediocre is really good, if the audience isn't even really listening, or in our case looking, at our work like another artist would be anyway. "Regular People" don't pixel peep, do they?

No regular people don't pixel peep and neither do professional photographers. There are a group in the middle who like the technology more than the process of taking photographs, they are the pixel peepers. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Great video, reminded me of a vlog from James Popsys about the bit. That’s precisely the reason why I haven’t upgraded my a7iii to anything like the a7r5 😂 though it’s tempting, I’m still really satisfied with the shots. Different story for video though. That’s a beautiful wreck 😁

Thanks Keith, yes that may or may not be where the idea came from. For what I call slow photography I don’t think it matters. If I was shooting racing cars, birds in flight or lions chasing zebras, then I would want the latest camera with ai driven auto focus like the a7r5. But, I doubt there is any appreciable difference in image quality between the a7iii and the a7r5. You might see a few percent increase when viewed on a big 4K monitor at home. When the image has been forced through KZbin or Instagram compression and is a low res mess on a small screen in someone’s pocket it doesn’t matter.

In my opinion Nikon Z5 and Z50 are the most professional ones, because they have mode dial on the right :) When I use heavy lens handheld I want every possible button and dial on the right side. What really bothers me with Nikon is when using manual mode I have to press a button to set exposure compensation, which means that I'm unable to adjust that when shutter is half pressed (for birds in flight). Hard to understand why Nikon still have only 2 dials, when since the beginning of digital photography there are 3 parameters of exposure that can be set. I have love for Nikon, but because of those reasons I left this system.

Yes I agree with you completely, it really bugs me the way that you have to do that for exposure compensation, and also if you want to adjust iso. I choose my shutter speed and aperture and then use iso to fine tune my exposure. Some might say just use auto iso, but sometimes you need to disregard what the light meter is telling you because of the way the metering is set. It can be a bit of a finger twisting fiddle sometimes.
