Back in the day when I shot transparency film (Fuji velvia) bracketing and camera duplicates where the norm! Always better to have more in case I needed to send the same image off to different venders. Great stuff dude!

Could you go into a little detail on how you metered in the 6x17 saguaro shots? Did you try to meter for the shadows in the cactus? average between the sky and shadows? I'm still trying to learn how to meter properly

If you're worried about scratches on negatives, you should try to find a lab that does dip and dunk processing. Scratching is usually due to dirty pads in auto processors, as far as I'm aware (which are way more common than dip and dunk). Either that, or start using Digital ICE! That'll at least mitigate scratches, if not remove them completely.

Hey Nick, you probably know this already but there are some saguaros along the road that goes between Pheonix and Sedona but at the Phoenix end more. Not as remote or as beautiful as where you were but good for a quick fix if you're in the area.

Plus it makes me wanna come back to the wild west, where I only spent a very short vacation last winter, this time to shoot some film. From this series I really like the 6x17 picture of saguaros shot at dusk that you don't like, with those pretty blueish tones. I would definitely buy a print. Mattias Marklund thanks! I scan using an Epson V750 with SilverFast software. SilverFast has a great feature called "Neg Fix" (I think) that does a pretty damn good job of color balance.

Where do you get your film processed? It's probably been 15 years since I shot on film, and in that time our local pro lab closed its doors. I can certainly do B&W myself, but that color... So looking for a recommendation.
