Hello, I am from Saudi Arabia, from the city of Hail, and my farm is close to the location of the project in which you were working, but I was not able to identify it, as do not forget to photograph it and make a video before and after.

Interesting.I use to work in Saudi Arabia. I was there between 1983-1986. Started at H.A.D.C.O. 120 km. from Hail. After that i went to a farm near Bureada S.A ,.was there 2 season.

I was close to HADCO that was a big operation.
@henningsrensen24215 жыл бұрын
yes,They had fence around 10KM X 35KM.First season (1983) we grow 70 circle at 50 ha 3500ha..Next year 1984 we grow 15.000ha wheat. I was there, just one season. It suppose to be the world largest farm under irrigation,at that time.Good experience

I know it was/is a common practice, but why the burning of stubble? To minimize the amount of residue? And/or to handle disease issues? I watch most of your other videos on direct drilling, and the presence of residue seems a critical component in building soil and retaining moisture.
@ImagesofFarming8 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul we simply didn't have a market for that amount of straw and the benefits of the residue were not known to me then. If doing it now the system is perfect for DD/No-till with the water being on tap, establishment would be fool proof, unfortunatly the consensus was that the water would run out in 10 years so we farmed year to year will no long term vision. 25 years down the line and some projects are still going so in reality we had a short sighted approach. There is a lesson in this for us all. Thanks for watching our videos Paul and for the input. Cheers.

@@ImagesofFarming I managed Kabir, Huwayeds and Golden Grass fro 2013 until its recent closer in 2018. We lifted all the pumps and capped the wells and now its just a dumping ground for manure from the dairies...

I did a 10 month trip and it was enough to make me realise I did not want to end up like many of the other Ex Pats who had been there a long time. I needed to get back to the real world.

Very nice video. Thanks a lot for sharing. Seems to be mostly history by now, with the water shortages. How did one get there initially? Where they hiring foreign experts on purpose?

Thanks Christian. I was hired just before the Iraq invasion in 91 they were looking for experienced crop specialists

hi and thanks for sharing your experience there, as I saw your reply on one of the comments 8t if wheat per h on that type of soil is awesome, I wonder what was the yield on grain corn and sorghum, and do you know if they are still continuing their AG projects ? thanks and best wishes to you
@ImagesofFarming4 жыл бұрын
shams mujaddidi hi. The maize yielded around 10t ha I think but not sure. The sorghum/Sudan grass was cut three times for hay during the 6 months it was in the ground, yield I can’t remember. I believe the project is now growing alfalfa for almarai dairy but some of the wells are dry.
@shamsmujaddidi45864 жыл бұрын
@@ImagesofFarming thanks very much for your kind reply, yes you are right , the project is only producing alfalfa as I was watching a documentary on KZbin, the farmers and wheat producers were complaining about corruptions in the system and things like that , it was nice chatting with you and good luck to you.

How many Saudis still live on the farm?Does the men or the women do most of the work on the farms?
@ImagesofFarming4 жыл бұрын
Its 30 years ago since I was there so I don't really know. There were no Saudis on the farm when I was there and defiantly no women, look into Saudi culture for more answers.
